Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars (Director's Cut)

playmagazine

  • Excerpt: A small group of elitists guided by an ancient religious cult want to control our minds and take over the world. No, this isn’t Bush-era America, it’s Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, a remake of the PC game that launched the cult classic franchise. This stylus-driven point-and-click detective story is a high quality presentation with a skillfully crafted, humorous script, engaging characters... and a pace that is deeply flawed.

Nintendo World Report
30 April 2009
  • Summary: A new director’s cut brings the classic back to life on the DS. But how does it fare when compared to its brother on the Wii?
  • Pros: A great story that is balanced with humor and intrigue, Captivating artwork, Hint system alleviates frustration when puzzle-solving, Over 10 hours of gameplay
  • Cons: Controlling characters can be a chore, Lots of text to read through, No incentive to play it one more time, Slightly primitive gameplay compared with other adventure games on the DS

  • Excerpt: Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars was originally released for the PC in 1996, but has also been released on the Playstation and the Game Boy Advance. It remains one of my all time favorite graphic adventures. The story is compelling, the characters are memorable, the visuals are stunning, and the challenging puzzles are never needlessly obtuse.

  • Excerpt: Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut is actually a remake of an older game called Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars . Basically, the Director's Cut means that they added and removed some things, trying to keep it true to the original, but updating it to take advantage of the touch screen on the DS. The graphics in Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut (wow that's a long name to say!

  • Excerpt: "Paris in the fall. The last months of the year, and the end of the millennium. The city holds many memories for me - of cafes, of music, of love… and of death." How about that for an opening gambit? These are the first words spoken by George Stobbart, American tourist and the hero of Broken Sword - one of the most celebrated games in the history of point-and-click adventures. As our story begins, we find George sitting at a café, flirting with the waitress.

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars

Game Over Online
21 November 2006
  • Excerpt: Broken Sword as a franchise was an oft-heard name last decade when the PC version debuted in the very beginnings of the adventure genre slump. Known then as Circle of Blood, it garnered critical praise but failed to really capture a popular audience; an audience already disillusioned with the offerings of then adventure gaming stalwart, Sierra Online. Now rechristened more appropriately as The Shadow of Templars, Broken Sword is transformed into a handheld title.

  • Excerpt: Templar will take Stobbart through many locales in Europe in his attempt to track down the holders of the manuscript, which dates back to the medieval order of The Knights Templar. While Templar is a mystery adventure game through and through, its story incorporates a great deal of factual history on the Knights Templar making its conclusion all the more tantalizing to uncover. For much of Templar, Stobbart will be conversing with people.
