Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

The 8th Circuit
12 January 2009
  • Excerpt: It's early 2008 and the floodgates have opened for Nintendo. Some of their best titles of the year came out: Wii Fit , Super Smash Bros. Brawl , Mario Kart Wii , and of course, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin . They took a somewhat established series, and opted to catch it up to speed, adding more touch control, online, and a darker storyline. But could it compare with triple A titles like Brawl? Read on.

The widely popular cartoony, but surprisingly deep series is back with an attitude. Advance Wars Days of Ruin is a bold and completely new chapter in the turn based series that started on the original GameBoy Advance. Game Freaks 365
13 February 2008
  • Excerpt: Intelligent Systems' Advance Wars series must have seriously confused that "love and war" saying. Previously the cute, harmless commanding officers (COs) and bright, colorful units and levels directly contrasted the ideas behind capturing cities, building armies, and killing enemies. Three iterations of Advance Wars ravaged many a handheld screen for years, but things have changed. The Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet, and Green Earth forces are nowhere to be seen.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Gamer vision
11 February 2008
  • Excerpt: Game: Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin Genre: Turn-Based Strategy Platform: Nintendo DS In the last few months, I’ve been trying to step outside the genres of video games I’m normally attracted to and expand my gaming horizons. This includes playing games of a tactical or strategic nature, like Jeanne d’Arc and Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP. With Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin for the DS, I’ve gotten a taste of turned-based strategy, and I think I like it.

  • Conclusion: Overall Days of Ruin is a fine inductee into the ranks of the Advance Wars army. Fans of the franchise may be taken aback by some of these elements but the core of this title is very much faithful to the series. If you own a DS and you're looking for a strategy game then this is the only place you need to look. You simply won't find a better handheld strategy title on the market.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Gaming Evolution
21 January 2008
  • Conclusion: In the end, the Advance Wars series has always been casual-friendly and this remains true for Days of Ruin. The lauded “maturity” has been a bit overblown, and it’s noticea-bly jarring when the game’s plot and characters contradict that maturity, but overall it’s more than you get from many games about war. It’s a testament to the history of the series that the game manages to blend reasonably complex strategy gameplay with a very slim barrier to entry.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Fueps
2 August 2008
