Excellent tool.

Gerald Eads "Mad Hatter", Amazon
  • Summary: Gosh, I must have had this thing for years now - was poking through the review requests. For when a battery piece won't do, this has been an excellent addition to the shop. Bulletproof, has never failed through all sorts of abuse (like sideways pressure for grinding).

Torque and Balance

RICHARD BLACKFORD, Amazon
14 January 2013
  • Summary: I have been using this or the earlier versions of this drill in my cabinet shop for more than 20 years. I has very good balance, fits my hand well, transferring the driving weight directly down the shaft enabling me to drive 3 inch screws to pull very heavy cabinets up against the wall. When you need to hold the weight of the cabinet and drive the screw at the same time, you appreciate a balanced powerful driver that is up to the task. I wouldn't buy anything else.

Great Drill

Stephen J. King, Amazon
7 August 2012
  • Summary: If you use this for what it's designed for. 5 stars all day. This is a drill, not a Driver. It gets a little tough to use Driving Screws into tight pilot holes, because its got too much power and no clutch so you can't dial it back much. I find that I prefer it to rip through drilling pilot holes, then use my battery powered Hitachi to drive the Screws in. Switching between the two makes jobs 3 or 4 times shorter.

not worth its cost

Wolf, Amazon
1 August 2012
  • Summary: Thought i was getting a steal on this when I saw it at sears for 20 bucks. Now though, I'm sorry i bought it. When they listed this as a drill, as apposed to a drill/driver, they weren't kidding; This drills low end torque is terrible: any attempt to drive an piloted screw will, at best, result in the drill stalling, and, when you increase the power, instantly stripping the screw.

quiet and smooth

tool collector, Amazon
28 July 2012
  • Summary: Very quiet and smnooth running drill. Recently used w/ wire brushes to remove rust from cental A/C compressor fan cover.Worked very well in that application. High speed w/ the brushes resulted in rapid rust removal.Drill is well balanced. Very good power for a high RPM drill!!!

Makita Makita Makita

natto, Amazon
4 July 2012
  • Summary: Excellent drill. I bought this to use on an as-needed basis and ended up using it a whole lot. It is really well built and worth the little bit more that you might spend versus a competitor. Just get it... and hang shelves, adjust everything, install an A/C, build something from random Home Depot parts.. whatever. Very handy tool.

A Fine Drill

Sergio Alvarez, Amazon
30 June 2012
  • Summary: This is a good drill. It's a small drill for just about all small jobs we get to work at home. My wife and kids use it with no problems. It's easy for them because the don't have to use annoying tools to secure the drill bit. I use it my self when I don't see the need to pull out a big heavy drill to do the job, which in my case is more than 99% of the time at home.

I thought Makita made quality tools at one time

Scurvy duck, Amazon
23 June 2012
  • Summary: I had this make and model for about 5 years. The drill developed some problems soon after I bought it, most notably a trigger defect that made running it a hassle. The chuck was another problem because it got worn out so that it could not be tightened although my use was not extensive. A new chuck cost almost as much as new drill so I opted to buy a new one of a different brand.
