Space Channel 5 – Second Opinion

GameCritics.com
8 November 2002
  • Excerpt: I agree with Chi on the issue of Ulalas sex appeal and the unusual style of the game. From first glance, Space Channel 5 is unlike anything Ive seen before and the overall design gives it the feel of an interactive American Bandstand or Soul Train—or MTVs The Grind for our younger readers. Granted some of her dancing and gyrations can best be described as "suggestive," it is all in keeping with the direction the designers are heading.

Space Channel 5 – Review

GameCritics.com
8 November 2002
  • Excerpt: In contemporary videogames, there's only one kind of sex; the kind that "sells." Most of today's games have become purveyors of the kind of obvious one-dimensional manufactured sex appeal that makes for eye-grabbing magazine covers and double-page print ads (i.e. Tomb Raider , Dead Or Alive 2 ), but contribute very little in terms of drama or tension to the game itself.

Expert Review

TheStar.com
27 October 2000
  • Excerpt: While it is extremely rare to see an original video game concept in an industry more famous for its peel, steal and market-like-hell M.O., unique games do pop up now and again nonetheless. Sega's Space Channel 5 is one such game, but that’s where the righteousness ends.

Shin Force

  • Excerpt: The earth is being threatened again! And it is up to you to save it! This time the evil forces are cute tele-tubby aliens with TV screens for faces, and are committing the greatest of atrocities!! They are mind controlling humans, enslaving them... to DANCE ("...oh the humanity," would be said about now)! Only you, the scantily clad, orange vinyl wearing, young, nubile reporter can discover what is happening.

Space Channel 5 is a dance party

GIN
21 June 2000
  • Excerpt: Sega's first attempt in the dance/rhythm genre comes right off their impressive showing at E3 last month. Space Channel 5 was hyped by Sega with an elaborate setting, complete with cage dancers, future-retro backdrops, and an LED display simply stating "Launching June 6, 2000!" After seeing this display, I started to gain interest in the title although the dance/rhythm games don't really appeal to me.
