Sonic Shuffle – Review

GameCritics.com
13 January 2006
  • Excerpt: When the original Sonic The Hedgehog debuted in 1991, Sega had one thing in mind—beat Nintendo's Mario at his own game. Sonic, both the character and the game, achieved success from being a faster, more hip alternative. However, time hasn't been kind to the blue rodent. The last game that really stayed true to the original formula was actually the first sequel— Sonic The Hedgehog 2 —which came out way back in 1992.

Sonic Shuffle – Second Opinion

GameCritics.com

  • Excerpt: I agree whole-heartedly with everything in Ben's review with the exception of his slam on Saturday Night Live alum and comic genius, Adam Sandler. Sonic Shuffle was obviously created to take on Mario Party , only Sega wanted to disguise this by tinkering with it to make it a little "different." That decision doomed Sonic Shuffle to be one of the worst mascot cross over games ever made. Why does Sega cook up these convoluted plots with their Sonic games?

  • Conclusion: Sonic Shuffle isn't as good as some of the past sonic games (probably because they were so impressive), and with Sonic Adventure 2 coming out later this year, Sonic Shuffle will become over shaddowed, but it's still well worth buying - even if it's only so you can walk about for the next week constantly hearing Eggman's voice in the back of your mind saying "what eeevil invention should I use on you this time"!

  • Excerpt: Blackjack! Wait...wrong cards. Ever wonder what would happen if Team Sonic sat in a sealed room with the Parker Brothers around a giant hookah, reminiscent of the one used by the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, and were under contract to join forces? My guess is that they would have a blast producing a wacky 4 player party game that would play like a board game, but feels like a Sonic title.
  • Pros: Solid graphics, Good gameplay variety, Fun with friends, Boring without, Slightly confusing

  • Conclusion: On the whole, this is definitely one for the kids, with its childish humour, its cartoony graphics, and its gameplay, so parents, if you want to shut your kids up for a while just pop down to your local retailer and buy this, or if you’re an adult and want some fun, buy it for your kids, and when they are gone, play the mini games, especially the tag game.
