Skies of Arcadia

Defunct Games
24 April 2005
  • Excerpt: Something about human nature draws us to the sea - to ships. Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick once claimed that if you set any man’s feet walking, he would invariably lead you to water, if any water could be found. So I’m certain I don’t need to explain the appeal of ships, much less large ones, with massive crews for you to command, and an entire world to explore. Naval battles, pirates, elegant sailing ships and attacks from massive "sea" creatures.

Skies of Arcadia

RPG LAND
23 February 2003
  • Excerpt: You may often hear the phrase “few and far between” to describe releases of certain great games. With Skies of Arcadia, it’s more like “Once in a lifetime.” The setting places you in a world of air. Just air. The only landmasses are islands scattered around the world. Naturally, this calls for an airship. Perfectly fitting for an air pirate such as our hero, Vyse! You take Vyse and his air pirate friends all over the world on a super-unique RPG quest.

Skies of Arcadia

Gamebits
15 February 2003
  • Excerpt: It was an age of legend — an era of daring. And it was a time of airships. Where gravity is more a suggestion than a law, islands float and ships fly for the horizon. Pirates and empires join in battle in Skies of Arcadia Legends, a Nintendo GameCube role-playing game (RPG) adapted from a Sega Dreamcast title released three years ago.

Skies of Arcadia

The Armchair Empire
22 September 2002
  • Conclusion: The visuals for this title are very tight. There isn’t any draw-in, pop-up, or any other polygonal no-nos lurking here. The look of the game reflects a far more fantasy/cartoon-y feel. It’s almost a cross between Phantasy Star and Shining Force in the aesthetics department, but no matter which way you look at it there is a very heavy anime influence to this title.

  • Excerpt: Sega apparently knows this, as they churn out one quality game after another, like Sonic Adventure, Jet Set/Grind Radio, Shenmue, Phantasy Star Online, House of the Dead, Super Monkey Ball, and so on.

Skies of Arcadia

18 September 2002
  • Conclusion: Overall this game offers everything that an RPG fan could want - decent storyline, amazingly rich and powerful graphics, and literally hours of gameplay. Yet again Sega have shown that they know how to make earth shattering games, and this is a must buy for every Dreamcast owner.

Skies of Arcadia

media-assault.com
28 March 2001
  • Excerpt: I think every other review of Skies of Arcadia has summarized the Dreamcast's lack of quality RPGs prior to the release of this game. I'm assuming you know that already. What you're really interested in reading about is whether or not the game is worthy of all the praise it's received in other reviews, right? In a word, the answer is "yes." Now, let me tell you why.
