Summary: A wonderful predecessor to the amazing PSO 2. Totally worth playing on one of the fan-made servers. The game features many large maps, which are pseudo-randomly generated. The music is beyond fantastic. The graphics - for their time - are beautiful. It takes many hours to be able to get to even level 100, and that is only half-way through the levels. You really need to grind to get the A wonderful predecessor to the amazing PSO 2.
Summary: Still the ultimate dungeon crawler that was one of the grandfathers to MMO games. There has not been any game since that comes close to PSOBB. It was truly one of a kind and sadly yet to be remade if even on a P2P style of play.
Excerpt: If you own or ever have owned a dreamcast, then you should of come across the game. If you did not , then your dreamcast experiance was sadly missing a great big chunk of loveliness! Thinking back to the date of release, the online gaming scene was just begining to come into its own on the PC, but online console gaming was still grinding out crappy ports of classic PC titles, such as the Dremacast version of quake 3.
Pros: Online play, simple controls, easy for noobs !
Excerpt: >> Phantasy Star Online: A survivor’s guide -------------------------------------- Subject: Video game summary/guide Genre: Role Playing Format: Sega Dreamcast -------------------------------------- [Note] Firstly, while this does review the game to an extent, its more of a guide on some of its ‘features’ so if you just want a summary on graphics and game play then maybe this won’t be your cup of tea.
Pros: A online RPG that is often more of an experience than a game, excellent and addictive
Cons: Has a limited lifespan without the online content
Excerpt: Phantasy Star Online (hereby known as PSO) is undoubtedly the most ambitious console game ever devised. Technically a role playing game (RPG) this is similar to lots of games in the genre, yet is like nothing seen before. Intrigued ? Read on. Phantasy Star was once a game for the Sega Master System. It had further incarnations on the Megadrive and has now been bought fully up to date for the Dreamcast, and soon the X-Box and Gamecube, and possibly Playstation 2.
Pros: Glorious to play and look at, online mode is superb
Excerpt: What is it that people like about RPGs? The numbers? The complicated battle system? How about the hit points and weapon strengths? No? Well it must be the characters and story then. Phantasy Star Online is like an RPG without all the stats, numbercrunching or turn based battles. It shines out as a beacon of hope to all that want to play a game with a good story and be involved with a nice fantasy plot, but still have the action element.
Pros: Fantastic online experience with great graphics too
Excerpt: Employing A ground breaking graphical technique that makes 3D characters look like cartoon drawings.JSR will guarantee a wow from anyone who sees it in action. Luckily it plays as good as it looks. You're a rollerblader/graffiti artist whos out to tag the neighbourhood to show rival gangs whos the boss.Collect spray cans ,skate to the tagable areas ,then get spraying!
Pros: brilliant fun gameplay
Cons: no important flaws although a little frustrating sas it is quite hard
Excerpt: So it's come to this: 16 months after the release of the Dreamcast, we've seen a magnificent total of one "proper" online game. Phantasy Star Online is the second - an addition to the groundbreaking Megadrive RPG series of the same name. A classic, dungeon-crawling, item-collecting adventure, PSO is very similar to games like Gauntlet or Diablo for PC.
Pros: Hugely addictive online play, Efficient match - making system
Cons: Dull in single player, Online play expense is prohibitive
Excerpt: Ifu have a DreamCast, you will probably know that Sega are going to stop production of this excellent console. But did you know that Sega have decided to only to bring out the best at last? This online (or offline) RPG game will set the standard of all RPG games for years to come, this is the best game I've seen around for ages, I mean, what it lacks in epic storylines like any of the Final Fantasy games, it makes up in sheer fun in being able to join teams and do quests...
Pros: online play, the cool stuff you can find in the game and build the ultimate fighting character
Cons: a few petty annoyances, nothing major or that will flaw the game
Excerpt: This has been hyped as one of the biggest most ground brakeing games of this year. So does the hype surrounding this online RPG epic truely warrented???? I have had my hands on this game for several days now which has taken control of my practically my life since i got it. The basic story line Phantasy Star Online is a pretty familiar one amongst RPG's Global destruction. The game is set in the future where earth is dying from years of neglect and war from mankind.
Pros: online capability, meeting people all over world
Cons: BT are probably forming a hit squad after the size of you bill
