NFL 2K1 (DC)

Digital Sportspage
22 May 2009
  • Excerpt: A lot of people were blown away last year by Sega's launch title, NFL 2K. No one had seen graphics like that before, and many elements of the gameplay were sweet, to say the least. However, Madden's loyalists were not necessarily running out to buy Dreamcasts, because there were problems with the NFL 2K gameplay that overshadowed its dazzling front end, including a very poor running game, a poor tackling system and the absence of a franchise mode.

Expert Review

Game Freaks 365
1 November 2007
  • Excerpt: One of the main reasons for purchasing the Dreamcast, after it died in 2001, was because of the enormous strength that the sports lineup on this system showed. The Dreamcast was the first system to offer next-generation quality gameplay, graphics, and commentary for a sports game. For the time, the level of pure immersion in the game left us all awed. Even today, NFL 2K1 is still renowned as the greatest football game of all time.

NFL 2K1

FunRanch.com
16 April 2002
  • Excerpt: NFL 2K1 is the most realistic football game I have ever seen. The player's movements are so lifelike, you feel like you're actually at the game! And this is not one of those games where you body slam the other team, like in NFL Blitz. When you get a penalty, the referee actually does the signals! There are even commentators who talk about what is happening on the field.
  • Pros: The realism of the movements is so accurate, that they almost look like real people!
  • Cons: When you play head-to-head, you can see what plays your friend is choosing, and vise versa.

Madden Crushed by NFL 2K1

GIN
8 November 2000
  • Excerpt: As one of the Dreamcast's launch titles, NFL 2K came away as the runaway hit of the system. It was so good in fact that GiN gave it the title of Best Sports Game of 2000, being the only other game (besides the godlike High Heat Baseball series) to beat out EA Sports for this title. There were some small problems that prevented it from being the be-all, end-all of football games.

NFL 2K1

Sports Gaming Network
26 September 2000
  • Conclusion: Of the console football titles released this year, this one is by far the best looking one. Rising above the pretty face, however, this game continues to excel. There are a few issues to be address. Namely, Visual Concepts seems to have gone too far to the other side with the running game. Whereas NFL 2K was next to impossible to run on, NFL 2K1 is too easy with certain players and teams.
