Excerpt: Once again, I am impressed with the graphics on the Dreamcast. AeroWings 2 shows a great image with wonderful frame rates. There is not much ambient detail, but the planes look good. The actually scenery could have been done better, but the HUD and the exterior of the crafts looks good. I do need to complain about the sound effects. The whistle of the air and the hum of the engine is great, but it stops there.
Conclusion: Unfortunately, the game goes on a bit of a nosedive when it comes to its presentation. The visuals are crisp, but there isn’t a whole lot of detail nor scenery to look at. There are some nice touches, like a vapor trail following your jet when taking a sharp turn. By and large though, there just isn’t a lot to look at except the sky and a small spec that is the occasional plane you’ll chase.
Excerpt: CRI's Aerowings was one of the launch titles for the Sega Dreamcast. Featuring a very realistic flight model and graphics that could rival the high end PC flight sims, it was impressive. In fact, it could be considered the first true console flight sim. However, despite being a good title, the squad-based flying became more of a chore, and gamers were looking forward to a little combat.
Summary: There are some real challenges and interesting missions here for those of you who are console flight sim enthusiasts (yes, all three of you). However, the average player will probably feel as though they've gotten all there is to be had out of the game's single player missions after only a few days of playing, and unfortunately the VS Mode isn't really successful in adding any notable replay value.
Pros: Enjoyable gameplay (while it lasts), great plane models.
Cons: Not enough substance, mediocre landscapes, underwhelming sound, sometimes frusterating.
