Summary: I have had my dishwasher for six years and CANNOT stand it. I actually went to the store and chose this sorry item, and have been kicking myself since. After about a year the control panel died, another year and it died again. The separators that hold the plates upright are connected with plastic clips which have a very high tendency to break, over and over and over. I have resorted to holding mine together with twist ties from bread packaging.
Summary: I bought my Maytag dishwasher in 2006, it failed three times within the first year. They finally, after much wrangling and threatening replaced it with a new one in late 2008. It has now died again! My earlier KitchenAid lasted 20 years. Try to find another brand -most of the ones we know are really made by Whirlpool, and are all probably equally bad. It washed well, but doesn't last worth a damn!
Summary: This machine lasted 4 years before the electronic panel went kaput. The repair was estimated at $350-450, depending on whether it was just the panel or the motherboard as well that needed to be replaced. The repairman said the part of the problem (beyond just cheap electronic components) is that the steam release is right next to the electronic panel. As a dishwasher, it was fine, but I expect appliances to at least make it for a decade. I will never buy another Maytag.
