Summary: I bought this dishwasher on the recommendation of Consumer Reports. It cleans dishes fine. However, should you be so much of a cook that you actually use a pot or pan, this dishwasher will not help you. It is nearly impossible to fit pans in this machine. In fact, the instructions for loading do not show a single pot or pan: only dishes. If you plan to actually cook the food before you eat it, you will have to wash those pots and pans yourself.
Summary: This is the worst dishwasher I have ever owned. It does not turn off after cleaning a load. And unless you have perfectly flat plates, your dishes will not fit. I can NOT do 1 day's worth of dishes in 1 load. It takes 3 loads of the dishwasher to clean 2 days of dishes for 2 adults and 2 children. THREE loads for a Thanksgiving dinner for 4 people. And after 5 months, some of the flip levers in the dish baskets broke off.
Summary: I bought this Bosch because of its high rating in Consumer Reports. I was replacing a Kenmore that I had never liked and wanted something of high quality. One of the problems I had with the Kenmore was that the dishes sometimes didn't get clean. Even worse, they sometimes smelled funny (the dishwasher also had a strange smell when it was running). I am thrilled to say that this Bosch is an excellent dish, glass, and utensil cleaner.
Summary: We're remodeling our Kitchen, and the existing dishwasher was very old with a few cracks in the door, so we replaced it. Although this is a straightforward DIY project, we had a few complications from tile work (floor and countertop) by a previous owner. The old dishwasher was tightly wedged in, and it was very difficult to fit this new Bosch into place. This is NOT a problem with the dishwasher.
Summary: My 15-year old Bosch SMU 4000 died, and the research on a popular consumer site said that the top 8 dishwashers were Bosch (including this model). I also trust the reviews on Amazon, and was surprised to see the low ratings of the Bosch dishwashers. So I looked around (in person) at the other brands available and just dreaded buying anything else but Bosch.
Excerpt: I am reviewing the SHE3AR76UC, which according to the features listed is the predecessor to the SHX3AR76UC.
It is an excellent machine. We use the recommended Finnish detergent tabs and the Finnish rinse aid. We never used the heated element dry, and there is only a tad bit of moisture left on the top of some tea cups (that have a concave bottom). Using the correct detergent and rinse aid is key to good performance.
Excerpt: I had a Bosch, then a non-Bosch, and will NEVER buy anything but a Bosch dishwasher from now on. They are fantastic! I will do dishes just to use it- I know they will come out clean.
It's very quiet and the 1/2 load option is great. We're on hauled water, so the water efficiency was really important for us. I tell my husband I can't wash dishes by hand- it would use too much water! I'm not sure why you'd need to spend more, as the ones in this price range are awesome.
