Summary: Excited to receive product until I tried to open it to install batteries & media card. Frustration abounded 1st with lousy directions and illustrations to open this watertight area. Immediately snapped part of the "access" lever off because instruction illustrated that I should "pull it out" or was it "slide it down". Anyway, broke lever half off then was able to get the "little tiny black button" next to the lever to push in to release the lever the rest of the way!
Summary: I got this camera for shallow water scuba diving (max 30 feet) and at first I thought I had found a great buy. BOY was I WRONG! I've taken this camera out only 5 times, and yesterday, water leaked into the camera and destroyed it. Not to mention, when it DID work, it had such a long delay that I could never get a shot of anything moving! I only gave it 1 star because I wasnt able to give it ZERO! Vivitar, you should be ashamed of your horrible product.
Poor photo quality and problems with connection to computer.

Summary: This falls under the category of you get what you pay for. The camera did fare well in water, but I noticed a definite lack of quality of the photos I shot with it. My biggest complaint after taking it on one vacation was an inability to download photos through the port designed to connect to a computer. It worked a few times, but then went dead. If I had to do it over again I would not have purchased it.
Summary: I purchased the Vivitar Vivicam 8400 for a vacation in the West Indies. On my first outing with the camera the strap became disconnected from the camera, and it sank into the sea, never to be recovered. Overall the camera appeared to be a quality point and shoot, it didn't leak at all when in the water, took acceptable pictures above and below the surface, and was easy to use.
Summary: A great buy and bargain ! I compared and contrasted the two cameras. The review for the Vivitar made me purchase it and I do not regret it. It takes AA batteries which can be purchased anywhere. Water proof up to 30 feet and the seals are tight . The only thing it doesn't have is sound for above ground video---But for the price it is awesome and I purchase the floating strap as well!! Great screen resolution too!!!
Didn't work from the minute we got it out of the box...

Summary: I got this camera for my daughter. We have many other digital cameras and are comfortable in the initial setup. However, on this camera, no matter what we tried (including going step by step from the manual) we could not get this camera to work. We tried 2 sets of new batteries. Additionally, I was not happy with the construction of this camera even if it did work.
Summary: I've owned the camera for about a year and you have to be super careful loading the batteries and the sd card when closing this cover up. It's not easy to tell if the cover is sealed or not. Last weekend while taking pictures kiteboarding, the cover appeared to be closed, but after it failed to function, I did a closer inspection and found that it was not quite as closed as I thought. If you buy this camera, keep this in mind.
Summary: This camera worked on one dive, taking fair pictures as long as the zoom was not used. On the second dive, snorkeling on the surface, it filled with water and was ruined. I can not recommend this camera.
