Summary: I have had this excellent camera for over 5 years now. Originally purchased for pool/snorkeling/diving photography. I quite by accident realized what a great out of water camera it is, too! I now use it exclusively (except for the occasional iPhone pic)for all my photos, including holidays, weddings, etc. NOTE: Right after I got it, I was cleaning some things around my desk with Goo Gone, and without thinking I wiped the viewer window, which clouded up the plastic.
Summary: I bought this item second hand to be able to use at the beach and tubing and I have not been disappointed. The menu functions are easy to figure out (mine didn't come with a manual) and the pictures are great! The only thing that is a draw back for me is that it will only take up to a 1GB card, but other than that, it is very versatile for sun, surf and sand.
Summary: I bought this camera in mid June for a family vacation we took in August to Florida. I was looking forward to filming Manatee in the clear waters along the west coast, unfortunately it didn't quite work out.
After getting set up for a close encounter, I stuck the camera under the surface and began to film, when I finished I lifted the camera to see that it had shut off. After drying it off and opening the case in an effort to get it working water poured out.
Summary: We purchased this camera shortly before our once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Galapagos Islands. The controls were easy to learn, and the ability to switch between still photos and video was wonderful, particularly as the seal wanted to play.
We took along rechargable AA batteries, but never had a problem with battery life during our water excursions, one of which lasted a little over 2 hours.
Summary: I wanted an inexpensive waterproof camera for the beach. After checking out the cost of a disposable camera coupled with the cost of developing and printing the pictures, I decided to go with this Vivitar. The pictures taken came out really good. The strap was secure and the camera did float as advertised. I also followed the reviewer's comments about making sure that the battery compartment was secure and closed before taking it back in the water.
Summary: I just got this camera for my birthday and it takes great pictures and short movies anywhere, even underwater! The reason why we can take this camera underwater is because of its waterproof case which protects the camera from anything, like sand and rain. I really enjoyed it because it was a lot of fun taking it to the beach taking pictures of it with my friends. It was definitely worth the price and you should for sure buy this camera.
Summary: this is a fun camera to have when going to the pool, beach or resort. We took it to Jamaica. The underwater pictures will turn out better when there is sunlight. Also if the water is not clear - obviously the picture wont be that clear. We had better pictures scuba diving when the sun was out an the water was calm. keep extra batteries on hand because when they get low it will die quickly. Also be prepared for a delay in the shutter speed.
Summary: Used an under water camera for the first time during my trip to Hawaii for snorkeling at Hanuma bay... It was cloudy with a bit of rain and so visibility was not so great. However, I got some decent images with this camera under water... but got great images of our group outside water. Next day we snorkled at lanikai beach, a sunny day and good visiblity resulted in some great under water images and average above the water images.
Summary: This camera is perfect for underwater pictures AND regular pictures! Last time we went snorkeling we made the mistake of purchasing disposable cameras - FAIL. Terrible and no depth. This one has zoom and the clarity is amazing. The colors also came out really well. It's pretty industrial - everything is easy to access underwater. It comes with an extra water proof seal ( so 2 water proof seals in case the 1st breaks).
Summary: For the price this is an excellent little camera. It takes good pictures and is easy to use and yes it works underwater just follow the instructions. The wrist strap that comes with it is pretty poor, but these are inexpensive and easy to find. As with many digital cameras it is difficult to see the view screen in bright sunlight, but it does a great job of point and shoot so get a memory card and take several shots to be on the safe side; always a good idea anyway.
