Fantastic Auto Focus

Jakub, B&H Photo
20 December 2012
  • Excerpt: This is a replacement for my Sony A550. There is a dramatic improvement in image quality, resolution, contrast and true to life colors in standard mode. I have only played with the A77 for two weeks but so far I like everything about it except for low light/high ISO noise. I was not expecting it to match the Canon EOS 5D Mark III but I was hoping for better performance.
  • Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD
  • Cons: Noisy At High ISO, Noisy With Long Exposures

  • Summary: Easily beats nikon and canon. Very functional for the average photographer and satisfies everything that a professional would need. Holds up well to travel as it came with us to Jamaica and did outstanding. Highly recommend it.

Great Intermediate Camera for Pros

dallascbst, B&H Photo
19 December 2012
  • Excerpt: I got this mainly because I have a baby on the way. When comparing camera's I looked at Canon T4i, Nikon D7000, and Sony A65 and Sony A77. The great points of Sony A77 is that the viewfinder shows you the changes as you do them. In Nikon, and Canon I didn't see that. The video auto focuse makes clicking sounds of the lenses, but the 18-50mm is alot more quite than the older 18-200mm default lens.
  • Pros: Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Tilt /Swivel LCD
  • Cons: Noisy At High ISO, Poor In Low Light, Short Battery Life

"The camera is truly amazing."

KevinStallone, CNET
17 December 2012
  • Pros: The camera has all the features anyone would need. Sure there is the A99 with a full frame sensor, but that's a whole $1000 step up from the A77. This is the all in one camera for professionals and amateurs alike.
  • Cons: No cons I can think of. The battery issues other reviews are talking about have been fixed I believe.

Great photo and video machine

16 December 2012
  • Excerpt: I use this for event and portrait photography, and shooting musicians in concert. With the excellent 16-50MM 2.8 Sony lens, it is fast and accurate, and I really like the electronic viewfinder. I notice but am not upset with the momentary delay when first using this - I also am impressed with the camera's relative quiet using the SLT (non-moving) mirror. Moving from the A700 I appreciate the difference the 24M pixel sensor makes in assignments I have sent out.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD

Awesome!

  • Excerpt: I've only had the a77/16-50 for a week but thus far it lives up to its billings. I'm very pleased with the a77 recognizing its strengths and weaknesses. There are issues with high iso but I limit the range to 1600. The 16-50 is great too, would like the range to be a little longer but it is constant f/2.8.
  • Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD
  • Cons: Noisy At High ISO

Great Camera But ?

James E, B&H Photo
4 December 2012
  • Excerpt: I am an old Minolta user and of course that led me to Sony and I have the alpha 100, 700, & 850. With my upgrade to the a77v all the outstanding features that come with making cameras into small computers open more creative avenues in making images. However some features do not work in RAW and you have to take time to change from RAW to jpg.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Panoramic Images, Tilt /Swivel LCD, Video
  • Cons: Contrasty Evf, One Card Slot

User Review

CartersImages, DP Review
1 December 2012
  • Excerpt: After almost 1 year of using my A77 for my photography business, I am finally almost satisfied. It's impossible to satisfy a professional wedding or event photographer with a budget under $3000 for a DSLR, but sony has came close with speed and quality when paired with the proper G-Lenses. The only improvements I would like to see is a better external flash, WIFI and blue tooth options for event on site printing.

Honest Opinion of this Camera

Pat the Bowhunter, B&H Photo
30 November 2012
  • Excerpt: I decided to buy a good DSLR to replace my Nikon D200 with something that had 1080p 60p in a DSLR so I can have a multi-function DSLR/Video. I went to BH yesterday and tried them all. I was torn between my investment in Nikon lenses and accessories with the brilliant photos and videos on this camera. Ultimately I decided on the A77 and after playing with it for 24hrs I am thrilled with my choice.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Large Clear LCD, Quiet, Tilt /Swivel LCD
  • Cons: No Audio Meters In Video, Non-standard Shoe A Pain

Fun & Great Camera

  • Summary: I am an old Minolta user and of course that led me to Sony and I have the alpha 100, 700, & 850. With my upgrade to the a77v all the outstanding features that come with making cameras into small computers open more creative avenues in making images. For the most part I cannot complain because this instrument is fun to use and creates great images. However I do have three bones to pick. This camera has only one card slot and that is a step down from the a700 and a850.
