CNET

Sony a55 DSLR Review

About.com
26 April 2013
  • Summary: My review of the Sony Alpha SLT-A55V DSLR camera can be summed up pretty easily: This is one of the best entry-level DSLR cameras currently available on the market. The Alpha SLT-A55V -- usually called the a55 -- provides a very nice mixture of easy-to-use features and great performance, including great image quality and fast response times in all typical shooting conditions.
  • Pros: Extremely sharp and bright images, either in auto or manual shooting modes, Automatic exposure is very accurate, even in tough shooting conditions, Extremely easy to use for a DSLR camera; automatic shooting mode works very well, Autofocus is very fast and accurate, Camera automatically switches between viewfinder and LCD view, depending on how you're holding it
  • Cons: Camera's size may bother those used to a point and shoot camera, In extreme low-light conditions, camera sometimes cannot generate enough light to focus, Occasional glare makes LCD tough to see in direct sunlight, Might not have enough features for experienced photographers

Sony Alpha A55 review

What Digital Camera
14 January 2011
  • Summary: At the £700 price point there's nothing else \Lon the market that can match the 10fps continuous focus - a notable benefit of the \LSLT technology that even out-performs (in terms of speed, at least) the Nikon D300s. However, there are some fairly big \Ldifferences in the level of control the A55 offers compared to what a professional DSLR can provide, but the difference in prices more \Lthan justifies this.

Digital Photo Sony Alpha SLT-A55

Macworld
30 November 2010
  • Excerpt: (1 items) The first step in taking a photo is to point the camera in the right direction. But to know what that right direction is, you need a viewfinder. The problem with designing a viewfinder is that the lens on the camera is located in front of the image sensor, so it’s difficult to get your eye directly behind the lens. SLRs get around this problem by using a flip-up mirror to bounce light into the optical viewfinder.
  • Pros: Can autofocus while shooting video, Fast continuous shooting mode, Very good image quality, In-viewfinder level, Multi-shot noise reduction
  • Cons: No program shift, Electronic viewfinder only

  • Conclusion: Sony Alpha 55 system camera The Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is a remarkable camera. Not only due to its compact dimensions, as there are even smaller cameras available, but more because of its design. The current series of digital SLR cameras on the market is based on an ‘old’ technology and although in terms of functions and image solutions, much has changed, the way in which the camera works has not even seen such a revolution.

Sony Alpha SLT-A55 review

Stuff.tv
11 February 2011
  • Summary: The A55 (along with the cheaper A33) is the first translucent mirror SLT camera on the market. This bleeding edge tech brings with it a veritable plethora of advantages, most obviously the ability to shoot continuously at an incredible 10fps. It’s worth saying again: that’s (count ‘em) ten full-size 16.2MP shots. Every. Second.

Sony Alpha SLT-A55 review

Pocket Lint
15 November 2010
  • Excerpt: The Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is an SLT (Single Lens Translucent) camera rather than a traditional DSLR. With this impressive new technology the A55 is capable of shooting 10 frames per second while continually focusing, can shoot 1080i HD video and even has GPS for geo-tagging your images. Is the tech-laden model as genius as it sounds?
  • Pros: 10 frames per second continuous focus burst shooting, GPS, great video autofocus
  • Cons: Electronic Viewfinder won’t be for everyone, 16:9 ratio of LCD screen not ideal for stills shooting
