Sony Alpha A55 review

What Digital Camera
14 January 2011
  • Summary: At the £700 price point there's nothing else \Lon the market that can match the 10fps continuous focus - a notable benefit of the \LSLT technology that even out-performs (in terms of speed, at least) the Nikon D300s. However, there are some fairly big \Ldifferences in the level of control the A55 offers compared to what a professional DSLR can provide, but the difference in prices more \Lthan justifies this.

Expert Review

LetsGoDigital
18 November 2010
  • Conclusion: Sony Alpha 55 system camera The Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is a remarkable camera. Not only due to its compact dimensions, as there are even smaller cameras available, but more because of its design. The current series of digital SLR cameras on the market is based on an ‘old’ technology and although in terms of functions and image solutions, much has changed, the way in which the camera works has not even seen such a revolution.

Sony Alpha SLT-A55V Review

Digitaltrends
23 August 2010
  • Excerpt: Sony’s been on a roll this year with the introduction of NEX series of cameras, and now the Alpha A55V as well as its lower-priced sibling, the A33. Although they look like traditional DSLRs , the pair is radically different which we’ll detail on the following pages. In a nutshell, they’re pretty amazing.
  • Pros: 16-megapixel APS HD CMOS sensor, Full HD video, 10 fps shooting, Accurate focusing, Terrific EVF
  • Cons: Grip might be too small for some, Button placement not totally intuitive, Plan to go broke buying better lenses

Sony Alpha SLT-A55 review

Stuff.tv
11 February 2011
  • Summary: The A55 (along with the cheaper A33) is the first translucent mirror SLT camera on the market. This bleeding edge tech brings with it a veritable plethora of advantages, most obviously the ability to shoot continuously at an incredible 10fps. It’s worth saying again: that’s (count ‘em) ten full-size 16.2MP shots. Every. Second.

Sony Alpha SLT-A55

Pocket Lint
15 November 2010
  • Conclusion: Part of a new generation of cameras, the SLT-A55 is truly innovative. The 10fps continuous shooting is incredibly good and far outclasses the next nearest DSLR in this department, not to mention significantly by price. Downsides are few and far between, and may be to a matter of taste rather than significant negatives: the main point is that the electronic viewfinder may not be for everyone, as it’s quite different to the feel of an optical version.
  • Pros: 10 frames per second continuous focus burst shooting, GPS, great video autofocus
  • Cons: Electronic Viewfinder won’t be for everyone, 16:9 ratio of LCD screen not ideal for stills shooting

  • Summary: A capable and compact DSLR camera with some interesting and useful shooting modes and Full HD video recording. In Sony's about-to-be-released 16.2-megapixel SLT-A55V (which will be known as the A55) DSLR camera, the traditional SLR mirror is replaced with a semi-transparent pellicle mirror that is fixed in place instead of flipping up and down with each exposure.
  • Pros: You're looking for a capable, lightweight DSLR that can shoot high-resolution stills and Full HD video clips., You're prepared to shoot and edit both JPEG and ARW.RAW images., You could utilise some of the multi-frame and high-speed shooting modes., You want body-integrated image stabilisation that works with all lenses.

Sony Alpha SLT-A55 review

PC Advisor
12 June 2010
  • Summary: The new Sony Alpha SLT-A55 is an interchangable lens camera that looks a lot like a traditional SLR. But, like a lot of its competitors, it lets you switch between the rear LCD screen and a small electronic viewfinder located where the viewfinder on an SLR would be.

Sony Alpha 55 Review

LetsGoDigital
24 January 2013
