Expert Review

Channel5
27 March 2011
  • Summary: The Sony Alpha A33 is a great entry-level DSLR, and is worth a look if you don't already have a collection of Nikon or Canon lenses. You certainly won't be disappointed with the quality of photographs.

Sony Alpha 33 review

Amateur Photographer
3 April 2014
  • Summary: No longer restricted to optical viewfinders or the mechanisms required for film transportation, camera manufacturers have gone back to the drawing board to \Lsee how digital technology can evolve camera design. \LSony has made a bold choice by using a fixed mirror and \Lan EVF, which may alienate some purists. However, the system works well, and it can only get better in future cameras as the technology is further refined.

Sony Alpha A33 (SLT-A33L) review: A great hybrid digital camera with a transluscent mirror design

Good Gear Guide.au
18 July 2011
  • Summary: The Sony A33 represents good value for anyone who wants a great camera for both stills and Full HD video. It's easy to operate, produces good image quality and it's reasonably swift, too. We don't like the 18-55mm kit lens much though as it feels cheap and it has slight chromatic aberration and distortion issues.
  • Pros: Fast focusing, good low-light performance, clear and vibrant image quality, very good video performance
  • Cons: 18-55mm kit lens isn't great, lens distortion, some noticeable chromatic aberration

Sony Alpha A33 Digital SLT review

ePHOTOzine
2 November 2010
  • Summary: For users of bridge cameras the Sony Alpha A33 Digital SLT is a definite upwards step, opening up the world of interchangeable lenses, including the superb Carl Zeiss optics. The full APS-C sized sensor puts it in a class alongside the conventional DSLRs and the big decision will depend on whether or not the buyer will accept the EVF instead of a standard optical viewfinder.
  • Pros: APS-C 14.6MP sensor, Excellent AF, Very usable EVF and rear screen, SteadyShot image stabilisation, A Mount gives access to superb lenses, Very decent kit lens
  • Cons: Sony exclusive hotshoe, Fragile articulated screen, Resistance to idea of EVF, No weather sealing, Mirror vulnerable to dust and damage

Sony Alpha SLT-A33 review

Pocket Lint
27 September 2010
  • Excerpt: The Sony Alpha SLT-A33 adds to the storm of changing camera technologies. Inside the last year or so we’ve seen the likes of mirrorless "hybrid" Compact System Cameras - including the Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 - unhinge a fair share of the DSLR market. And now, with the launch of Sony’s new "SLT" (Single Lens Translucent) Alpha A33, it looks as though the breadth of categories expands yet further. Does the A33 spell the beginning of the end for DSLR cameras…?
  • Pros: Ultra-fast continuous burst shooting, excellent 1080i HD video autofocus
  • Cons: Electronic Viewfinder won’t be for everyone, 16:9 ratio of LCD screen not ideal for stills shooting,

Sony Alpha 33 (SLT-A33)

Absolut Photo
28 December 2012

Sony Sony Alpha 33 18-55mm Kit
