Summary: This WAS a very good camera when we first purchased it! Camera size is compact (for what you get), takes amazing pictures, and is fairly easy to use! I was torn between 2 stars and 3 stars ... I gave it a 3 star rating because prior to the below, we did like this camera.
Summary: I really wanted to love this camera. From the very start I have had issues with the flash being very unreliable, it seldom goes off even if set to go on. If I fidget with the screw on flash sometimes it will work but doesnt keep working ... frustrating for such an expensive purchase.
Excerpt: The Good: Small and light weight camera means its a joy to take out for the day. Sony 16 mb APS-C sensor offers excellent IQ even with kit lens. Blows away my old Canon XXXDs + 17-85mm. Images require far less processing that the Canon XXXDs with many ready to go straight out of the camera.
A great camera for photographing, but not for video recording

Summary: I purchased this compact machine last Dec, and it is amazing! You will be amazed by the photo quality this little camera provided. The image is sharp and color is accurate. I am upgraded from the M43 and I would say I am very satisfied with it. However...
Summary: I bought this camera about a year and a half ago. It was my first step up from a point-and-shoot and, as such, was a real eye opener. I was quite excited about what was possible with the larger sensor size and flexibility in a "real" camera.
Summary: Ordered from Amazon (Amazon direct was the seller) on 12/4/2011 still had that annoying click! Returned it right away and got a new kit directly from sony a week later and am proud to say there is no click at all!
Good as a high-quality Point-and-Shoot, not suitable for the advanced photographer

Summary: I'm reviewing this as a high-end prosumer camera, a grab-and-go camera to complement or even replace my SLR in most situations, which is what most cameras in this range are targeted at. I recently had the opportunity to compare the NEX-5N side by side with a Nikon P7100.
Summary: Great images. Lightweight kit. Many functions useful functions including touchscreen focusing and RAW capture. With the smaller 16mm pancake lens attached, it is easy to pocket. The articulating screen is useful for overhead or floor viewing. I used the NEX5N for 18 months.
Summary: Basically a very good camera, provided you buy it new [to get the Sony warranty]. I would certainly not recommend for anyone to buy this camera second hand, or ex demo. I have two of these cameras, both new, both bought in London at the end of 2012.

Summary: I've had the following NEX-5 cameras: NEX-5 NEX-5N * 2 NEX-5R The only one worked without any problem was the NEX-5, the other 3 just developed all kinds of serious problems. The NEX-5R and one of the NEX-5R won't turn on says camera error.
