ok

alex, Amazon

  • Summary: Item was delivered without original packaging and with no paperwork. The product was advertised as New but without original packaging and paperwork it leads me to believe that it isn't new. With that being said the product functions fine and haven't any other discrepancies.

  • Excerpt: I really enjoy the tilt feature on the viewfinder. The presets like landscape produce some great results. The only draw back for me is you have to make sure you have a full charge on your battery when you head out for the day. Got caught one time when the camera sat for a week and the battery charge level was almost dead.

  • Excerpt: I`m using this camera only for video recording of landscapes. Very-very acceptable quality. -large sensor -rock solid build quality -good ergonomics -relatively small in size Problems: When doing some photos, i had noticed that lens quality is rather poor (16mm fixed), if we compare it, for example, with Sigma DP1X EXCELLENT fixed lens.

Overheats when shooting video!

Claire Jordan "Filmmaker - "The Baroness ..., Amazon
17 July 2011
  • Summary: Length:: 2:10 Mins Let me start by saying that I LOVE this camera... as a still camera. The photos it shoots are very impressive. The lenses, though currently limited in range, are very nice (I have them all.) I love the small, compact size, the progressive engineering and innovative technology. As a still camera, I think the NEX 5 is a thing of beauty. ..

"Favorite micro four thirds camera design."

DJB91, CNET
9 December 2010
  • Pros: This camera is the smallest and most comfortable micro four thirds camera in the world at the moment.
  • Cons: The menu system on this camera is one of the most frustrating interfaces I have ever had the pleasure to use. I feel like Sony was trying to be artsy with the menu system but failed miserably. They should fix the menu system with a firmware update.

Wait for the NEX NEX

GJW, Amazon
4 December 2010
  • Summary: Years ago I was a serious amateur photographer using the best SLR gear available. I've been point-and-shoot for the last decade, largely because professional quality DSLRs were quite expensive and too big & heavy to take along on hikes and trips. The Sony NEX5 enticed me to upgrade from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 (a very good point and shoot).

Fairly easy to Use

Momma C, PhotoAlley.com
28 September 2010
  • Summary: One of the things that I don't like is if you set something wrong it is so hard to figure out what you did to get it back to where it needs to be. The picture playback is not very user friendly. Other than that I really like it and my pictures come out very clear.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Lag / Shutter Delay, No Viewfinder

Very good in low light conditions...but

Dzonka, PhotoAlley.com
28 September 2010
  • Summary: The viewfinder is very hard to see in strong light but superb in low light,so if you buy it, and use it for low light conditions you will be pleased. The short life of the battery can be a problem if you are not aware of the % you have left before a shoot, because it will just stop. You absolutely should protect the screen with a plastic cover like those you can buy for the iphone.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light
  • Cons: Lag / Shutter Delay, Limited Zoom, No Viewfinder, Poor Flash, Short Battery Life

Good results

merciful-evans "ME", Amazon
2 February 2014
  • Summary: Great images. Lightweight kit. Many functions useful functions including touchscreen focusing and RAW capture. With the smaller 16mm pancake lens attached, it is easy to pocket. The articulating screen is useful for overhead or floor viewing. I used the NEX5N for 18 months. I only replaced it because of the handling, which I never got used to. Its essentially menu driven & 'fiddly'. Hence the reduced 3 star rating.
