ok

alex, Amazon
2 January 2014
  • Summary: Item was delivered without original packaging and with no paperwork. The product was advertised as New but without original packaging and paperwork it leads me to believe that it isn't new. With that being said the product functions fine and haven't any other discrepancies.

  • Excerpt: I really enjoy the tilt feature on the viewfinder. The presets like landscape produce some great results. The only draw back for me is you have to make sure you have a full charge on your battery when you head out for the day.

  • Excerpt: I`m using this camera only for video recording of landscapes. Very-very acceptable quality. -large sensor -rock solid build quality -good ergonomics -relatively small in size Problems: When doing some photos, i had noticed that lens quality is rather poor (16mm fixed), if we compare it, for example,...

Overheats when shooting video!

Claire Jordan, Amazon
17 July 2011
  • Summary: Let me start by saying that I LOVE this camera... as a still camera. The photos it shoots are very impressive. The lenses, though currently limited in range, are very nice (I have them all.) I love the small, compact size, the progressive engineering and innovative technology.

Wait for the NEX NEX

GJW, Amazon
7 January 2011
  • Summary: Years ago I was a serious amateur photographer using the best SLR gear available. I've been point-and-shoot for the last decade, largely because professional quality DSLRs were quite expensive and too big & heavy to take along on hikes and trips.

Very good in low light conditions...but

Dzonka, PhotoAlley.com
28 September 2010
  • Summary: The viewfinder is very hard to see in strong light but superb in low light,so if you buy it, and use it for low light conditions you will be pleased. The short life of the battery can be a problem if you are not aware of the % you have left before a shoot, because it will just stop.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light
  • Cons: Lag / Shutter Delay, Limited Zoom, No Viewfinder, Poor Flash, Short Battery Life

Fairly easy to Use

Momma C, PhotoAlley.com
28 September 2010
  • Summary: One of the things that I don't like is if you set something wrong it is so hard to figure out what you did to get it back to where it needs to be. The picture playback is not very user friendly. Other than that I really like it and my pictures come out very clear.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Lag / Shutter Delay, No Viewfinder

Great photos but some flaws

C Rowe, Amazon
10 December 2010
  • Summary: From previously owning a Canon PowerShot G9 I wanted the next step without the bulk of SLRs. The nex-5 looked like a great solution, which it is, but it's not quite perfect for my needs, here's my experience: The Good ------- Excellent photos, especially in low light conditions.

Why ?

P. Bailey, Amazon
10 December 2010
  • Summary: Used the Nex 5 with the 18-55 lens, excellent build quality and feel to the camera, I just dont understand the logic of a SLR with only a sceen to view (no viewfinder) the long lenses are difficult to impossible to old steady and the screen is difficult to view in bright light.
