The Sony NEX-5 is a compact dSLR that is powered by a 23.4 x 15.6 mm Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor that provides users with 14.2 million effective pixels images in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio in RAW or JPEG file format. The Sony NEX-5 also supports 1920 x 1080i at 17Mbps video recording in AVCHD format, supports dust reduction with a coating on low pass filter, Sensor-shift technology and is compatible with Sony E-mount lenses such as Sony Alpha lenses, as well as Minolta and Konica Minolta AF lenses (via adaptor). The Sony NEX-5 also features Image Stabilization technology such as 'Optical SteadyShot' system (on selected lenses), Auto Focus (Contrast AF, 25 multi-point, centre-weighted, Flexible Spot); shooting modes (Intelligent Auto, Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, Manual, Sweep Panorama, Anti-Motion Blur, Scene modes (below) such as Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Sports Action, Sunset, Night view/portrait, Hand-Held Night Shot) and supports up to 12800 ISO sensitivity. Other features include 30 to 1/4000 seconds shutter speed, white balance modes, Dynamic range optimizer, HDR Auto, color modes, a 3.0 inch XtraFine TruBlack LCD display, flash, self-timer, connectivity options such as HDMI out (with PhotoTV HD and BRAVIA Sync), USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and video out (NTSC or PAL). The Sony NEX-5 supports Memory Stick Pro Duo, Pro-HG Duo, and SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. It is powered by a Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery for up to 330 shots, measures 117x 62 x 33mm and weighs 297g. The Sony NEX-5 comes with a shoulder strap, battery, charger, USB cable (miniB), CD-ROM and flash.

Features

The Sony Alpha NEX-5 features new APS-C format sensors, with a video recording option (1080i) and a new lensmount (the all-electronic Sony E bayonet). Designed in a conventional 'compact' mold, and bearing a resemblance to Sony's Cybershot range, the NEX-5 sports a magnesium alloy body and offer 1080i video recording in AVCHD format. Available in silver and black color option, the unit comes with a screw-in flash unit that connects to the 'smart accessory terminal' on the topplate, and features an optical viewfinder that can only be used with the 16mm f2.8 pancake optic.
