Sony DSLR-A900

The Sony DSLR-A900 is a digital SLR camera that measures 6.12 x 4.62 x 3.25 inches excluding its protrusions. The camera’s body is composed of a die-cast magnesium alloy shell that is sealed by rubber gaskets making it resistant to dust and moisture.

The DSLR-A900 features a 3-inch TFT Xtra Fine LCD panel with a pixel canvas of 921,000 dots. The camera features a 35mm full frame 24.6-megapixel Exmor CMOS image sensor that does not only provide sharp and high contrast photos but also a larger capture area as compared with most other DSLR cameras.

The camera is equipped with Sony’s SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilizer which shifts the Exmor CMOS image sensor when the camera shakes allowing for significant blur reductions. This image stabilizer is built-in and is therefore compatible with all Alpha system lenses. The DSLR-A900 also makes use of Dual BIONZ image processors which allows for continuous shooting at up to 5 frames per second.

The DSLR-A900 features 12 scene modes to choose from. These include Standard, Vivid, Neutral, Clear, Deep, Light, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset, Night View, Autumn, Black & White, and Sepia. It is powered by an NP-FM500H lithium ion rechargeable battery that has a capacity to snap approximately 880 photos.

The camera is compatible with all computers with Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X version 10.1.3 or later. It provides a direct HDMI output allowing users to connect it to HDTV screens. It also has a dual card slot that is compatible with CompactFlash and Memory Stick Duo.

The Canon 5D Mark II, which lists for $300 less than the other two cameras, is a more formidable competitor. It was only the second SLR to ship with high-definition video recording capability (after the Nikon D90), and the first to support full 1080p resolution. What’s more, the video we shot with the 5D Mark II was consistently first-rate, very sharp and colorful, though admittedly without some of the control options or handling ease you’d get with a dedicated HD... 2. Sony Alpha DSLR-A900

Feb 2, 2009 By Dan Havlik The Sony A900 offers a solid but relatively lightweight build. There's a strange throwback quality to Sony's new "flagship" DSLR model, the 24.6-megapixel, 35mm-sized full-frame A900. The first thing you'll likely notice about this camera is the huge, steeple-like pentaprism on top which may remind you an old film SLR. (The Contax N1 is the first camera that sprang to mind for me though the A900's pentaprism is more pyramidal. Like the Contax,... Read more

The Sony alpha DLSR-A900 is a terrific camera. It’s clearly for serious photographers who want excellent quality and are interested in making large prints and/or severe crops. It’s easy to recommend, but alas, not so easy to pay for, since you’ll want a super-quality lens—and don’t forget the flash. If you want pure picture prowess, however, definitely consider the alpha A900. Read more

Overall I enjoyed using the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900, and for the most part I was very happy with its image quality. A full-frame 35mm sensor is indeed exciting, but I'm not convinced of this model's value. It may be a good value to you, if you crave the wide-angle capabilities that full-frame offers. Nevertheless, I've seen equal or superior results from 12-megapixel DSLRs, for less dough. Read more

  5. Sony launches the A900 full-frame DSLR

Sony's been showing off the full-frame Alpha A900 DSLR since February , and after popping up in ads and in the wild last week, it's official today, right on cue . Same basic specs you've known forever: 24.6 Exmor CMOS sensor, dual BIONZ image processors, ISO 6400 sensitivity, 3.0-inch LCD, 5fps shooting, and SteadyShot INSIDE in-body optical image stabilization. Sony's also launching a few new Alpha lenses to complement this beast, including a Carl Zeiss 70-400mm f4-5.6... Read more

The Sony A900 is a camera built for photographers. Wonderfully agile, great ergonomics and stunning image quality. It does require the high-end lenses to get the most out of that resolution though, so factor that into your budget. Both the 24-70 and 70-300 operate beautifully on the A900. The thing I like about the A900 over the Nikon D700 or Canon 5D Mk2 is how fast I can work with it. The camera just "gets out of the way". No endless pages of menus like the Nikon D700,... Read more

I have had Sony DSLR's from the A100 to the A700 and now the A900, a lot of likes between the models so once out of the box, the 900 seems like an old friend. Took off to Moab Utah, my favorite haunt, for a week, again left the tripod at home but have a monopod with me. Plugged in a older Minolta 28-135 f:4-4.5 with a CPL and WOW o WOW.... This camera shoots like none other, sure it is a bit on the heavy side but it is ok to get a muscle here and there... She just feels... Read more
