Great camera, above and below water

Doug Freeman, Amazon
1 March 2012
  • Summary: I have used this camera since 2008, both above water and in a housing to depths of 160 feet. I have gotten great pictures under a variety of conditions including a week of backpacking in Yellowstone Park. I find that the view through the viewfinder only helps with composition compared with using the back screen. After over 30,000 pictures, I can not complain.

Great camera for a great price

Sports Shooter, J&R
29 September 2009
  • Summary: I use this extensively for youth and high school sports as well as general travel and landscape photography. This camear is well made, gives fast access to common settings, virtually no shutter lag, good noise control through ISO 3200, nice color representation, and is very easy to use for a higher end digital camera.
  • Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Great Image Quality, Image Stabilization, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

Great camera

Leonardo, B&H Photo
10 February 2009
  • Summary: It is an excellent camera. Fast, beautiful, robust, intuitive, with a great picture quality. The Dro is really useful. I am so glad that I purchase a Sony A300 camera as a reserve. Here in Brazil is very difficult to find high-quality lenses for the sony. In the kit lens (18-200 mm) is very slow and fails to ocasições low light. I have not adapted to the excess of yellow in the images of overcast weather situations (settings white balance).
  • Pros: Big and bright view finde, Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy To Use, FAST AUTOFOCUS, Fast Shutter Speed, Great Image Quality, Image Stabilization, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Hot shoe, no live view, Raw conversion software, White balance on cloudy

Very Nice Piece of Equipment

Ecolodger, B&H Photo
25 January 2009
  • Summary: This is my first DSLR. Last year I moved into digital Photography and bought a Canon G-9. Already on my first workshop that camera's limitations were evident, so I decided to sell it and get a Reflex. As a owner of the whole Minolta X-700 lens system, I got a MD/ AF lens adapter, so I may continue to use my old lenses. I'm pretty happy with my new system, but been used to change batteries every 3-4 years...
  • Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy To Use
  • Cons: Field automony insuff, Weather sealing so so

Good Camera for Minolta Lens' Die Hard

Dan C., Abes of Maine
11 January 2009
  • Summary: This is a great update to the Minolta-Konica 7D. The a700 unit works well; it has very clear and easy to navigate controls and the new LCD is awesome. The auto settings work well. The manual controls are great. I have no general complaints at all with this unit. The Sony 58 flash head works well with the a700 (trash or recycle any Minolta legacy flash head's that you may have left as they do not work well – i.e. way over exposed shots).
  • Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Great Image Quality, Image Stabilization, Strong Construction

Great Landscape Camera

Aspen Jim, B&H Photo
22 November 2008
  • Summary: The Alpha DSLR-A700 is overall a fantastic camera. The large LCD and menu are easy to use and the camera handles very nicely. I do mostly landscape photography and the pictures that it captures show very well on my Sony big screen television channelled through an HDMI connection. I find only 2 distacting points: no live view and no universal external flash mount - it will only accept Sony external flash units.
  • Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Great Image Quality, Image Stabilization, Small Lag Time, Strong Construction

Spectacular Value

zcarman, Abes of Maine
12 October 2008
  • Summary: Very strong mid-range candidate in the DSLR market. Great package. Can use some older Minolta lenses for upgrading glass. We shoot weddings, portraits and more with our A700's and love them. In the $1200-1500 range, there's not a better bang for the buck!
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Battery Life, Good in lower light, Good sized screen, Great Resolution, Nice Features and Settings, Rugged
  • Cons: A100 Batteries don't work, Must use Sony Accessories, No affordable pro glass
