The Sony Alpha A200 is a well valued digital SLR. While it is the new entry-level DSLR from Sony, it keeps image quality and performance high. This 10 megapixel digital SLR is packed with useful features and technology such as built-in stabilization, dynamic range optimization and dust-reduction. With body-based stabilization, all lenses automatically benefit from stabilization, even ultra-wide-angle lenses, at no additional cost. Read more

At first glance, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 appears to be little more than a refresh of its predecessor, the Alpha A100. It shares the same 10.2 Megapixel sensor, the same 3fps continuous shooting speed, the same 18-70mm kit lens, and the same basic feature-set including built-in stabilisation. Read more

    • Built-in anti-shake - works with any lens., InfoLithium battery gives accurate feedback., 18-70mm kit lens longer than most rivals., Quicker AF than predecessor.
    • Relatively noisy at 800 ISO and above., No Live View (but it's on the A300 version)., Anti-dust system not effective in our tests., Flash doesn't popup as high as rivals.

The A200 is further confirmation that Sony deserves its slice of the DSLR market. Admittedly, there’s nothing here that is particularly revolutionary, and the upgraded features don’t make a world of difference, but the focus with this model is on providing a good, entry-level DSLR at a very reasonable price. • Quick AF, new Fn button, noise control improvements over A100
    • Handling quirks, no major upgrades, anti-dust could be more effective

Sony's SLR juggernaut got rolling early in 2008 with the Alpha A200, a simple, inexpensive, 10.2-megapixel digital SLR camera that takes some pretty impressive pictures. There isn't a whole lot to talk about in terms of new or revolutionary features, but that's not a strike against it. Rather than starting a revolution, the Sony A200 refines what was a good camera -- the A100 -- making it better in several important areas. Read more

I am what some would consider a "pro-sumer" (professional consumer) and have used SLR-type cameras since the early '70's for both work and play. This camera can and will do just about anything you ask it to. For the average person with an average understanding of what each function is used for, one could easily become distracted by all of the bells-and-whistles that this camera has! It lacks nothing to prevent you from creating that perfect shot. Read more

...this is just about the perfect entry-level DSLR. It has everything that you need to get great shots out of it, without the high price tag or a bloated feature set. I'd definitely recommend it. It's not the best, technically, but it's a great learning tool, performs well under stress, and an expert can get great shots out of it across the ISO range and in all lighting conditions. I would say that this will become legendary for its value as a DSLR. Read more

    • great feature-set, great value in a DSLR, noisy at high ISO but manageable...a much better implementation than the km5d and a100

I like this camera and it is my first DSLR, I think the panal is easy to control and the feeling of holding and touching is very good. Comparing with lenses of Canon and Nikon, the construction of sony lense 18-70mm can be better if Sony can use better material and include more beatiful details. However, it's quality is amazing and I enjoy using it very much so far. Read more
