Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99

CNET
19 April 2014
  • Summary: If looking stylish while taking photos is as important to you as capturing good-looking images, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 will probably appeal, but there are much better compact cameras available for the price.
  • Cons: Awkward to hold without touching the screen accidentally; no hi-def output; average image quality.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 – For snapshot photographers

etechreviews.net
18 April 2011
  • Excerpt: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 is a camera made for snapshot photography and I won’t recommend it to professionals who love to play with the settings a lot. There are some controls offered but shutter bug freaks won’t be too happy with them. There is an Easy mode which locks all the options except for the image size (small or large), self-timer, flash and enlarging of the screen text.

  • Excerpt: Along side their DSC-WX5 and DSC-TX9 announcements, Sony has released a new affordable T-series model, the Cyber-Shot DSC-T99. This unit replaces the DSC-TX1 from last year, and boasts some appealing features for a sub $250 ultra-compact digicam. These include a 14-megapixel CCD imager, internal Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens, a large 3.0-inch Touchscrenn LCD, Sweep Panorama and much more. This unit is designed for the style savvy with five color choice options.

  • Conclusion: The Sony Cybershot DSC T99 does a solid job. If you are looking for a touch controlled digital camera, but do not want to pay the top prices then this is a more reasonably priced option. It can take a decent snapshot and you should have no problems with ease of use. You will always pay a premium for touch control and a stylish design like this camera has, but if this is the type of digital camera you are looking for you should find it offers good value for money.
  • Pros: Small size, design, responsive screen, touch control, ease of use
  • Cons: Colours could offer extra zest

  • Conclusion: Sony’s DSC-T99 is a sturdy little camera that’s built to be taken out and about. It’s accessible enough for most photographers to get to grips with, too

PhotographyBLOG

  • Excerpt: Unlike Sony's Cyber-shot WX5 with its conventional boxy shape and protruding zoom lens, the flat-fronted brushed metal 14.1 effective megapixel, 4x optical zoom T99 is a slim-line snapshot contender of the slide open and shoot lens cover variety. This means its internally stacked optics are hidden from view when the camera is inactive, and at no point extend proud of the faceplate surface when in use.

Pocket Lint
6 January 2011
  • Excerpt: Looking for a snapshot camera diminutive enough to squeeze into the tightest of pockets, yet still packing in most of the latest must haves and remaining usable in the practical sense? Almost an exact match for a credit card, apart from its still slender 16.8mm depth, Sony’s flat fronted 14.1-effective megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-T99 with its slide open and shoot lens cover might just be the answer.
  • Pros: Small pocket-friendly size, high-ish effective resolution, affordable, well-constructed, large-ish touch screen, quick and easy to get up and running
  • Cons: Image quality is variable and the camera doesn’t cope well with less than ideal conditions; you’d do better with a slightly larger lens (and sensor)
