Nice camera but missing important features

Lisa Peters, Amazon
  • Summary: I like the camera and it took great vacation photos and video, but for work I take photos indoors and have been disappointed with its features for that application. I can't set it on a macro setting manually (in auto setting it recognizes when you're up close, but you it can't focus when I'm as close as I need to be) and can't set it to adjust for florescent lighting either, so skin tone on indoor photos is off (I miss my old camera for those features tremendously).

Great little camera-some disappointments

nine-volt, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I bought for a compact backpacking/casual camera that still has high quality images for nature photography and/or scouting shots.Pros: very compact, good feel to quality of body construction and weight. VERY fast lense, nice LCD display, intuitive contols in general. Good image quality, especially for size.Cons: some aborations (blues and violets) at high end of exposures (blow outs turned blue at edges), which was disappointing given the overall quality of the images.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact

  • Excerpt: Feels like a substantial camera body that will go the distance....durable. Still getting acquainted. Not too user friendly or intuitive but I am hopeful on quality of images and options. No regrets.
  • Pros: Good Image Quality, Good in Low Light, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Complex Menus, Limited Zoom

A lovely little camera

Steve, B&H Photo
15 September 2014
  • Excerpt: Bought this for a trip to Europe and was looking for a small, lightweight camera that could still produce good-looking pictures. I was not disappointed in the quality. The wide aperture allows for a nice, soft background as well as really pretty low-light pictures. Only drawback was I wish the lcd screen were a little tougher. I found a small scratch on it after only a few weeks of use.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Good in Low Light, Small / Compact

  • Summary: The reason why I gave it a 4 star rating was mainly just because I thought the zoom would be better. Other than the zoom situation, everything was a great for the price! It took unbelievable pictures.

Minor issues aside still one of the best pocket cameras

Dusan Lamos, Amazon
26 July 2014
  • Summary: The original RX100 is still one of the best pocket cameras You can buy today. My unit had some minor issues (came with some dust particles INSIDE the LCD screen which at first looked like dead pixels and there are signs of mechanical abrasion on the lens barrel after repeated extending/retracting of the lens). These are however merely cosmetic and don't impact the usability of the camera.

Excellent, barring some ergonomics

  • Excerpt: All around great. Fast response times, except for power-on to first shot and flash reload (well over 1 sec). Auto modes generally pick reasonable apertures and shutter speeds. One subpar design feature is the control ring: I use it for aperture or focus setting. It is clickless, probably since that would be odd for focus. So there is very poor feedback when you use the ring.
