Summary: I purchased this camera to replace a very nice Sony camera that was inadvertently lost. Although it's an older model (came out in 2002), it is a great little point and shoot with many great features.
Summary: Sony has finally recalled this and other models for the black LCD screen problem. Other models being recalled include those listed here: [...] To issue the recall work order, call Sony 1-866-703-7669. I had just gone through the process, and it was rather painless. Hope this helps!
Summary: My camera has also died. Yes, a black screen within the two year time frame... I shall be avoiding Sony products from now on! As an aside, if vendors are going to make "disposable" products (in this case it is cheaper to buy a new camera than repair this one), then I will only be paying "disposable"...
Summary: My camera's LCD went black after 18 months like many others and I called Sony and of course they wanted to charge me $100+ to repair it. Because I am missing out on special moments witth my children as a result of the camera, I purchased a different brand with more MPs.
Summary: Mine died after 16 months of use, I was thinking about buying one of their $4,000 dollar TV's. If they don't fix this $250 camera I'm not spending any more money with them. I "formerly" thought of them as a high end electronics manufacturer. Addendum: I spoke with Sony on line.
Summary: First off, I'd like to say that I've had this little camera for three years now. I'm now doing the research to buy a new one with higher MP, but this one is still going strong. If you're the type of person who just wants a point-and-shoot digital camera, this one will be pretty good for you.
Summary: I purchased this camera in November 2002. For almost 2 years it functioned perfectly, then about 6 weeks ago, I suddenly had a black screen. It is now in for repair for the black screen problem for the third time in 6 weeks.
Summary: This was a great camera, for a while. Of course as soon as the warranty expired, it had problems. The first thing that happened (and also happened exactly to a cousin of mine with exact camera) was that you could no longer run USB cord directly from camera to computer.
Summary: I have owned this camera for 2 years (paid $280) and was well pleased with it until about 10 days ago. Then the LCD screen went black and pictures were black. After reading several reviews today from camera owners with the same black screen problem, I gave my camera a couple of whacks to the left...
Summary: I got this camera a little less than two years ago, and generally, it's served me pretty well. However, about a year ago, I too began experiencing the seemingly notorious "black screen" problem.
