Excerpt: Bought a Sony NEX7 two years ago and really enjoy the camera and quality of Sony. Needed a pocketable travel camera and chose the HX50V, results are what I expected with a Sony product. The 30x zoom is fantastic and images are excellent. As is the problem with this class of camera, low light without a flash is disappointing, but take it outside and it becomes the perfect travel camera.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Small / Compact
Summary: Delivery was very quick, couldn't be better. So far the camera is doing very well (first couple days). I love the zoom, especially sitting in the nose bleed bleachers trying to capture a moment on the other side of the field. Pictures in low light conditions also turned out very nicely, so no issues there. I do have issue with the video feature though. It does 1920x1080@60p which is excellent, but typically only needed for high speed action like scooter tricks or so.
Summary: I like the picture quality, but am not crazy about the flimsy flash that pops up. I fully expect it to break, and don't like that I have to remember to press the flash button if I need flash. I like auto-flash, which I have had on every camera I have ever owned since the 90s.
Summary: Just 18 months ago, 30X (truly small and) compact point and shoots were not even available. Now in 2014 this category has a number of contenders. With respect to reviewers saying "DLSR quality" for this category (it always seems to be a headline in some reviews--no matter what model), it is not true, but don't let that deter you--picture quality can be high.
Excerpt: Have been with this camera for over 3 months now. Bought it for video purposes. It works excellent for what I bought it for. When recording it focuses pretty nice! When doing macro on recording mode it's a little bit slow but that's not a problem for me. The quality of the voice on videos is excellent also. Pictures quality are excellent & the fact that it has a 30x zoom it's amazing!! Definitely recommend this versatile camera. It's handy & has all you are looking for!!
Excerpt: I use this camera while hiking and walking to take pictures of nature and keep a GPS record of location. The image quality, zoom, and image stabilization are excellent. Even at 60X zoom, the image shows little camera movement. Exposure and GPS are accurate. Cons are the display which is diffiult to see in sunlight even at its brightest setting. A viewfinder would be nice, but the price of the accessory viewfinder is exhorbitant.
Pros: Accurate Gps, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Great Zoom, Short Lag Time
Excerpt: I really appreciate the 30x optical zoom in such a small form factor. Usage is for family photos and recording kids performances. I like the additional manual controls. Only dislike is having to engage the flash, but that's a minor thing.
Pros: Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
Summary: I really think this SONY is the best point-and-shoot camera - dollar for dollar - on the market. That's why I bought it. The 30x lens is amazing. Ergonomics are excellent. The 1080p movies look great. I upgraded from a very good Canon point-and-shoot. My only regret, and what I will miss, is the variable-light viewing screen the Canons have. That's the only thing keeping me from a five-star rating for this SONY. BTW, I bought the silver option.
