Summary: Came with a European adapter and not with a US power cord which would have only cost a few cents to include. The memory slot is for Sony memory card and is NOT SD like every other camera in the world. A big surprise when opened on Christmas morning.
Summary: I owned a Sony Cybershot W50 and it took great photos. Many of my friends were surprised to find out I used a point-and-shoot for taking photos for my first child because the photos were very sharp and well focused (without using flash on the baby). Unfortunately, W50 died due to some abuse. I thought I would try another Sony. But to my greatest surprise and disappointment, W290 takes photos that are much worse than W50.

Summary: At first I posted great reviews for this camera. I had taken some out door shots and video...viewing them at reduced size everything looked fantastic. Then I started taking indoor shots and editing my full-size images. Wow, what a huge let down. This camera isn't good value for the money. It's $200+ of disappointment. I took some indoor shots...wow...unbelievably awful.
Summary: I had a Canon A540 that ran on AA batteries, which I didn't like. However, until recently the photos on the Canon were very nice, colorful and crisp. Recently, the flash stopped working, so I went looking for another camera. I really wanted to like the Sony camera, because we are extremely happy with our Sony HDTV.
Summary: ...there were so many things I didn't like about it, I finally exchanged it for the Cybershot DSC-H20, which for me is, soooo much better! Back to the W290. On the positive side, I liked it's looks (???) and the burst feature is great. The features are also easy to use. But for me it just didn't take GOOD PICTURES! I shoot mostly candid shots of ppl and this camera was a real letdown.
