Summary: Coming off Canons I had high hopes and was disappointed. the camera is very difficult to use, not intuitive like the Canons. Also stores files with different labels that do not allow simple up loads to picasa. Save your money buy the canon.
Summary: Don't buy this camera ... in fact don't buy anything from Sony. If it breaks and you have to return it you'll have to deal with their repair facility in Laredo which will give you the worst customer service you've ever experienced. They won't honor the warranty and they'll make sure you have a horrible experience while they do it. Look at the other reviews of this camera for horror stories about the warranty and learn from our mistake.
Summary: I got this camera about a year ago and at first loved it, has great functions, easy to use, etc. Then i started having problems, first the paint started peeling off the cover, not affecting performance, but making it look shabby. Then water somehow got inside the camera body. I never took the camera deeper than 5ft, never had the battery cap open in the water, always made sure there were no sand or debris in the battery area and generally took good care of the camera (i...

Summary: SONY - PLEASE READ! This is one of the first reviews I've ever submitted -- I want to save other people the same money, frustration and time. Bottom Line: If you would buy the camera with a water damage exclusion in the warranty & knowing that it is not possible to ensure that the camera won't leak, then go for it. I would not buy this camera again & I would recommend never talking to warranty service at Sony -- it is a maddening time sink, I was cut off 4+ times.
Summary: I loved this camera for the first 6 months of having it. I went snorkeling in Hawaii at shallow calm waters and after that the camera stopped working! The whole reason I purchased this was to be waterproof. I did everything right making sure all the latches were closed properly. I am sending it back to sony as it is still under warranty. However I am worried they won't fix it based on the other reviews I've read. I will update when I find out what they will do.
OK Camera as long as you're always near a power outlet.

Summary: I previously owned the Sony DSC-T9 and was really happy with the camera. I mostly use my cameras for hiking/camping/backpacking, and when the T9 died I thought it would be really nice to have a camera that was waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, etc. So I bucked up and paid a premium for the Sony DSC-TX5. At first glance out of the box, I was really impressed...nice looking camera, seems well built, all told it seemed to be a nice replacement for the T9.
Summary: Well, I'm totally disapointed with Sony because of this camera. I have just used it for 2 weeks then it died. First time using the camera under water, after few minutes, it stopped working, the screem got crazy and it never turn on again. I have burned 300 bucks on nothing! I have followed all procedures, stayed in a place with less than 2 meters deep, only about 15 minutes after, the camera sttoped and never work anymore.
Camerea is not reliable, and SONY has BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Summary: I bought the Tx5 less than a year ago. I was happy with it while it worked. It took good pictures, and worked as advertised for a while. However, one day it just stopped working. I did not drop it or do anything that would cause it to stop working. I was always very careful to make sure the latches were locked and the seals were clean before I put it into water. It was never dropped from anywhere near 5 ft.
Summary: I loved this camera, for a week. It took great pictures on a beach vacation, and video too. I took VERY good care of it according to the manufacturer's directions. Upon return, following manufacturer's recommendations, I called to find out where to get it cleaned by a sony certified shop. The lady told me it was under warranty, just send it in, they would be glad to do it for free. Then they email a week later, the cover was missing and it would be over $200 to fix.
Summary: Do not buy this camera. If you have bought it, do whatever you can to return it. Here's why: 1- The CAMERA: -During my second time using it under water (shallow depth), water crept in after half an hour. I got multiple error messages and then it just died. I had NEVER dropped it, even though you are technically allowed to. Honestly, when compared to a Canon of similar price range (that my friend bought for the trip), the photo quality was inferior as was the LCD screen.
