Summary: I have owned the TX10 and TX20. Loved them and used them to death. Unfortunately both cameras had problems with the casing cracking. I didn't lose any photos and water did not go in but I had to ship it back to Sony. Luckily, both were under warranty and Sony replaced both in a timely manner. I needed a waterproof camera for my upcoming vacation and decided to go with Sony's TX30 hoping that the past problems would come back and haunt me.
Summary: Picture quality, color is great, but I am disappointed by the glass quality. There seems to be a very slim (if any) coating on the camera and the piece scratches easily. The camera fell about 8 inches through water and onto a river bed and when it came up it looked as if it had been put into a rock tumbler for 30 seconds - all scratched up, and not just lightly - these were deep, heavy gouges on what were smooth river rocks.
Summary: It is highly portable and takes amazing pictures for the size. The super macro feature is amazing. I have not taken photos underwater but took bunch of pictures above water surface while swimming with no problem. My biggest problem, and hence the 3 star, is that there is no option to turn off the image review function and this forces a delay in taking a next picture. I have not timed it but feels like 3 seconds.
Summary: Good camera for the price. I bought it mostly for underwater photography and there has been few problems. Mind you I have got few very nice pictures. First biggest issue I have is the screen can be very hard to look with sun glare.. The macro isn't all I expected either, mind you I never did any macro before. If camera is to near subject it wont focus or whites out from the flashes. The clearest pictures underwater are ones I was about foot or two away from my subject.
Summary: So I got this bundle for the wife. It's good not great The Good - Camera is great works good, quick start up pictures look great lots of shooting options - Extra battery works (no extra charger) -The card reader works well you don't need an adapter to read the micro SD card The Bad - Micro SD card Well they didn't sen a Micro SD card just a regular SD card which doesn't work in the camera Pretty dumb. -The Tripod one of the legs was properly glued in so it falls out.
Excerpt: Use this camera as a snapshot, dirty and "camera going to get wet" circumstances. There really are no manual controls - so it's basically like using a cell phone camera with a somewhat better picture. The weather and water resistance is great - good for bath time, for the beach (clean the sand out of the cover!) or pouring rain. Battery life is OK, and you don't get an external charger. So, can't charge one battery and use another.
Pros: Easy to Use, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact, Water And Weather Sealed
Cons: Lacks Raw, No For Expertsenthusiast, Poor in Low Light, Short Battery Life
