Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX30
16 May 2014
Conclusion: The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX30 (Est. $200) is a stylish, ultra-slim and lightweight rugged camera that produces great quality images on land and good quality underwater shots. Its large touch screen works well on land and is highly visible. However, it's this touch screen that contributes to poor reviews for the DSC-TX30's use as an underwater camera. You need to use the touch screen to operate the camera and you must have dry hands to do so.
Pros: Very good photo quality, Stylish, ultra-thin metal body, 3.3-inch touch-screen OLED display, iSweep Panorama feature
Cons: Touch screen does not work underwater, No GPS
Summary: The Cyber-shot DSC-TX30 is an ultra-thin rugged camera for those who don't want to worry about the camera getting a little wet. It's certainly not for divers, as the touchscreen display does not work underwater. The otherwise beautiful OLED display is also difficult to see outdoors. The flash is very weak, and battery life is poor. Photo quality is decent for its class, though details are smudged when viewed full size.
Summary: This waterproof camera has many great features, including the macro mode for capturing small subjects and an ability to take photos and moving video simultaneously. While it does not have the built-in GPS that many outdoor enthusiasts appreciate, we are impressed with this camera’s responsive touchscreen for viewing photos and menu navigation. You’ll find almost everything you need with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX30.
Pros: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX30 has a macro mode for capturing photos of tiny subjects, and the responsive touch screen makes it easy to navigate the controls.
