5* in 2007, still an elegant 3-4* in 2011 on MANUAL MODE

Summary: Purchased this in Dec 2007 prior to a trip to the Mediterranean when it was a top of the heap new release boasting HD video playback capabilities, video zooming and 8mp resolution. In a way this was wasted on me back then, when I hadn't bothered to read the manual leaving the camera to its own devices, relying rather on its auto sensors.
Summary: I have had this camera for over 2 years and have taken many pictures and videos with it. I love the features and size. My only problem now is it started making noises. The auto focus motor is constantly adjusting and the pictures have become blurry. I called Sony and went through all the trouble shooting. Nothing has solved the problem, and I am a little leery about paying $149 to fix it when a new camera is not that much more in price.
Summary: I bought this camera for my father and used it for a few days. The main thing a camera is supposed to do, i.e. take pictures, it does badly. Indoor photos look very artificial, so I had to tweak the settings quite a bit for the quality to become acceptable. The other thing: the battery goes very fast. I had to buy a spare battery for him, since it wouldn't last during a day-trip. My advice: look elsewhere. Try the Canon compact cameras.
Summary: I got this camera a few weeks ago, I was very excited to receive it. The touch screen works pretty well, no problems with that. The battery life is lousy. Maybe 50-75 photos, maybe. My canon SD630 lasted double or triple that. The photos look fine, nothing amazing. The camera is a bit bulky and I'm probably going to return it. Not thrilled. I give it a 6.5 out of 10.
Summary: Bought a black one of these cameras and really liked it. Great features, low shutter lag and easy to use. 15 months after purchase it started to take the odd picture that was all shades of purple (like sepia but purple). Its getting worse and now the edges of the viewing screen are purple. Sony's online (faceless) repair service wants a fixed £114.56 to repair it. I thought it was a quality product but this has put me off Sony as a brand.
Summary: After living with it for a month I can say it takes pictures which look good at 320x240, but unless the light is perfect you will have pictures with so many compression and noise-reduction artifacts they literally look like they have been run through a French Impressionism filter in Photoshop. Shutter speeds are typically so slow (outside of bright sunlight) that the slightest movement will blur a photo. Flash is only 40th. sec.
