Summary: Very Happy with the Sony R-1... Sony's secret one time deal.. No other camera comes close to this one. for a point and shoot it is as good as a dslr.. Not so much for action photos more for landscape.. Had one before when they first came out missed it so much had to get it again.
Outstanding used camera at ridiculously low price in 2013!

Summary: The Sony DSC-R1 is one of photography's best kept secrets. It seems that Sony designed the best of DSLR qualities into a super bridge camera. The CMOS sensor is APS-C size; the viewing screen can be viewed from front, back, top or either side; the Zeiss lens is incredibly sharp at all apertures and has a nice zoom range from 24 mm to 120 mm (35mm equiv.) and is permanently installed, so no dirt on the sensor.
Summary: This is really a great camera. I read about the new Canon Gx1 and marveled at the large sensor in it and then I found that Sony had made this camera a few years ago with a full APC size sensor. I read up on it and saw this one on eBay and was lucky to get it at a good price. With a large sensor and a fast zoom lens this is surely better than most entry level DSLRs. It is a hunk, but if you are willing to haul it around the results are great.
Overall, I have 2 already, this camera work great for your money.

Summary: This camera is very unique and easy to use, I am professional photographer, I enjoy taking picture from single person to a families of 10 or more. This camera doing all. The picture very clear and auto or manual focus is great. I like it. I have more than one already. Compare this to other camera I use, this is better adjust any way your want right on your fingertips and easy.
Summary: I have purchased this camera to replace the identical item, that was stolen from my car, while I was on vacation in Rhode Island. Since it was taken, I had purchased several Canon cameras, and a dozen lenses to replace what this one camera did. It has a versatility that, in my opinion, is unequalled in the digital world.
When I die I want the R1 to be buried with me so I can use it in heaven.

Summary: This camera can do certain things that other cameras cannot do. I have 3 Sony F828's and two R1's and a Nikon D3s. 6 months ago I met a collector that was selling a new R1 in a sealed box for $600. The offer was too tempting so I bought it. But too bad I'll probably sell it because I don't even use the other one much. There is a technique that you can do with this camera that creates some stunning photos. And I found this out by accident.
still a good performer needs to be updated soon though

Summary: I love this camera and wish that Sony would make an update to the line. I have bought and sold several of them on eBay. The Sensor is 10.3 megapixels which is still adequate The thing is built like a tank and without interchangeable lenses reduces the chance for dust The 2" LCD is a little small, but the EVF works okay.
Summary: This is the camera to get if you don't want to mess with the multiple lenses that using an SLR requires. The Carl Zeiss lens is so versatile! It goes from macro shooting to 135mm easily. And the delay that is typical of so many digital cameras is very minimal with this one. Unless you are planning on enlarging your photos bigger than 16 x 24, then there is no reason to use a higher (and more expensive) professional camera.
this camera is the camera to own prior to the dslr cam.

Summary: if i were to get involved into the world of digital slr this definitely would be the camera to own.it is beyond the point & shoot stage.. if for no other reason it would be for the heart of this camera namely the zeiss lens, for those of you who are familiar to the field of optics.secondly it enables you to crop your pictures in this camera before you download,& third you can operate an sd chip & a 16gb compact flash simultaneously.i gave my first dsc-r1 to a friend.a...
Summary: I loved this camera when I had it. (I recently sold it on eBay so I could buy a higher MP camera). Dude! If you could see the pictures I was able to take with it! Many times people would compliment me telling me they were "Pro" quality. It was easy to use but had great manual settings and a wonderful sturdy build. The electronic viewfind was excellent. I would say the color was off in the viewfinder and screen, it was more saturated than the true pic.
