Super versatile and a lot of fun with a little practice

Summary: I bought this camera for a trip to Italy. Over the course of three weeks I snapped 6500 pictures and a few dozen Video Clips. Battery life ran 2 1/2 hours with straight shots and about an hour with video. I strongly recommend a spare battery. I would turn off between shots to extend battery but I completely drained the battery in Rome and really would have liked another hour of battery (the third party battery on this page charges great and is a superb value).
Summary: This camera provides the best combination - Decent picture quality, Excellent HD video and 20x optical zoom. Build quality is great and battery life is good. I agree that picture quality will not match with DSLR but you need to spend a lot of money to buy a DSLR and telephoto IS lens to match the optical zoom of this camera.
Summary: I'm very pleased with my purchase. Great quality images. Great price, Very easy to use. A little bulky but it does fit well in hand. I absolutely love the panoramic setting when taking "nature" shots. I love the zoom, my kids don't look like ants on the field during their marching band competitions anymore. All in all a great product for the price. I recommend it to anyone who's a beginner, looking to get great quality images and video, with ease of use at a great price!
Summary: I have to say that my experience is good so far! When i received he camera(my 3rd digital cam)we were leaving the that morning to go to Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando,so i charged up the battery for approx. 1.5 hours, and although it wasn't fully charged up when i left home, the battery lasted the entire 6 hours that we spent there. Now,because i didn't get to peruse the camera or instructions,i simply set it to Intelligent Mode, and started to shoot away, and yes i have...
Summary: I love my HX1. If you want a point and shoot with loads of features this is the camera for you. I was slightly intimidated by all the features but I am learning to use them. This camera was an upgrade from my old Cyber-shot DSC. If you want an SLR then you should buy one but if you want a point and shoot that does EVERYTHING...this is the camera for you.
Summary: Just took it to Hawaii, and it worked like a pro. Used all the manual functions; so much better than a standard point-n-shoot. I wanted a SLR, my husband wanted a PNS, this brought our two worlds together. Love the panoramic function and beach mode. Love the video and big zoom, too. If we have to list a negative, it's that it takes longer to shut-down than our old PowerShot.
Summary: I am not a professional photographer but a mother who loves to photograph all the awesome things my family does. I bought the DSC-HX1 6 months ago, I had the Sony DSC-H10 for a couple years and it was really good, I was very pleased so when I went to upgrade I wanted to stay in the family because I already learned all the buttons on my old Sony and was very happy with it.
Summary: This camera is extremely useful. I didn't want to carry a bunch of extra lenses nor did I want a huge attached zooms lens as is standard with removable lenses. This camera can do it all. The sweep mode allows great panorama shots that are automatically stitched together in the camera. There are many modes to shoot in and I am still learning them. The twilight mode works quite well in low light and produces some interesting photos.
Excerpt: After 6-months the camera is almost perfect--love the build quality, feature to include great video and hand held twilight! The EVF is too small for realistic use--I have cataracts..Image quality far surpasses my Sony P-200 and is better than my film SLR using 400asa film..I photograph wildlife and the 560mm zoom is almost perfect!
