Question: Sony cameras: Problems with areas of high contrast

I'm not sure of the correct terminology for it, but do Sony's still have a problem with areas of high contrast? I had a dsc-t10 (and I noticed it on a friend's Sony of a different model) that allowed the light from the background (on a photo) to bleed over onto the leaves of a tree in the foreground. This caused the boundaries of items in the foreground to be very indistinct. The Nikon I used previously and now do not do this. I like many features of Sony's, but this problem caused me to get away from Sony cameras.
