Summary: Great camera. I was a little skeptical about purchasing, do to all the functions i would have to learn. But after reading manual and watching a couple tutorials, got it figured out. Great night time picture quality as well. taking it on my cruise 9/21/2014, see what its got.
Excerpt: Took this camera system to the 70th Anniversary of D Day in Normandy France. It performed as expected and the pics are truly great. The one issue I had with the camera is in low light. Even in manual focus mode, the camera refused to take a picture when it couldn't find its own focus points. Went to full manual mode but the opportunity for the jump into Normandy was lost. Otherwise, this is a strong camera system and I enjoyed using it.
Excerpt: I am a real estate photographer. My 'go-to' camera , a Sony SLT A35, had to be sent in for repair. I bought this as a back-up, as I liked the SLT feature. This had as many features as my A35, which cost me twice as much when I bought it. The A58 is 20mp as compared to the 16mp of the A35. I highly recommend this camera. I have found the Sony cameras stand up well to travel and frequent use in various conditions.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization
Summary: This is a great package and although many people may not be talking about the SONY line of DSLR's they should be. The autofocus allowed in the video is cool, due to the whole transluscent mirror technology.
Summary: I own this camera and an alpha 99 While the image quality is nothing like the a99, it does really good. I used this camera more for macro since the crop sensor gives a little more reach than the full frame. It's too bad the ISO doesn't go down to 50. The build quality if OK and functional. I'm not concerned about lack of metal around the lens mount. It is light weight and lots of plastic but I'm not concerned about this.
Summary: Everything is as I expected of a Sony product and that is excellent. The only item that was an excellent product but substandard for the intended use was the carrying case for the equipment. Why include a carrying case that all of the equipment furnished will not fit and will require the purchase of an additional case? I expected a package purchase to be better.
