Summary: I own two other Sony Alpha DSLR cameras and was looking forward to using the A57. Although the product as received was A Sony Alpha SLT-A57 it appeared to be used or was a display or demo unit. The camera body showed signs of light use and had the battery loaded.
Summary: Wow! Stepped up to this camera from an alpha A500. All my lenses work great. It was like going from a bike to a car! Incredible camera. I got a used one in "very good" condition and everything works great.
Summary: This camera performs, and exceeds my expectations in countles ways, and still does 2yrs later. I won't go into details of every aspect this camera is capable of, mainly because I'm not as advanced as some reviews with in depth reviews are, you can read those.
Summary: Replaced my Canon T3i with the a57 after traveling with a friend who had the a57. This works so much better for my needs than the T3i. For my use I like the EVF. The controls and menus are much easier to use on the a57 than the Canon T3i or my old Nikon D40.
the 18-50 lens that's optional is not good at all in my opinion

Summary: Get the body only, the 18-50 lens that's optional is not good at all in my opinion. Just skip it entirely and spend $20 more total for a sigma or something. Camera is ok, settings pretty good and easy to adjust. Noise isn't so great, but it may be the stock lens causing that.
