Summary: I bought this camera to replace an old camera and since I just had my first little I didn't want to miss a thing. Well I am was pleasantly pleased. This is my first SLR camera and I definitely still figuring out all of the options I am enjoying figuring it out. My only complaint is the larger lens is about the same price of the camera! I am hoping that if I am patient I will find it on sale somewhere.
Summary: This camera takes very good photos and has lots of options to enhance your pictures. It is the first DSLR that I have purchased and really gotten to play with. I am not a professional but I would consider myself to be a hobbyist. The camera takes pretty good low light shots. It has a twilight mode where it will take 6 or 7 shots together and combine them to create a photo with very little blurring or noise, even when shooting without a tripod.
Summary: Takes excellent pictures. Eye piece leaves a lot to be desired but camera image quality is great. Software is not easy to navigate but has more than adequate features. I use the lcd screen for manual focus and picture results are very good.
Summary: I also have the Sony A58, which, like the Sony A3000 is a quality camera. However, while I love the A58, like most DSLR cameras, it is large and heavy. The A3000 uses the same large sensor, produces fantastic photos, including low light photos. Since it is much smaller and lighter, it is more convenient for everyday photography. I also love the "clear image zoom" which doubles the focal length without the image degradation found in regular digital zooms.
Excellent cheap camera, having any viewfinder is a big +

Summary: I like the picture quality and the size, as this camera is about the same size as the smallest Canon DSLR that costs about twice as much. The viewfinder is pretty bad compared to higher resolution ones, but it is functional, and the ability to zoom in on the view with the lower programmable button allows you to see fairly minute details, while the full view is good enough for framing a shot.
Excerpt: Image quality is very good and the kit lens is pretty good. Nice way to get a start into the Sony e-mount lenses. Sony sensors are really good. LCD and EVF are adequate for framing and focusing (focus peaking feature and zoom for manual focus really help). Autofocus is good in normal and bright lighting.Don't think you can find anything else that comes close to IQ in this price range.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance

Summary: I have 5 sony dslt cameras currently and my first emount was this a 3000. I now own 2. It's a good thing that I bought this first as the grip is much better than any of the nex line of cameras and the sensor is appreciably nicer than all of the nex cameras except for the nex7. I have been a photographer for 48 years now and have owned dslr cameras from all of the major players. My very first dslr was a nikon d1x.
