Summary: I have owned two other 35mm cameras from Minolta, and wanted a digital camera from Sony. So far so good; no problems other than the battery has a short life. It drained completely when we were up in the mountains camping. No outlets anywhere, of course. Couldn't recharge it. Camera is very good, though.
Summary: This was my first dslr and it was fantastic, very durable (it has taken quite a few hits and splashes) great image quality, very light, and fits the hand like a glove. And its innovations are only now being taken up by larger players (Canon and Nikon) and that's what i think Sony is great for. but not practical to stick with if one is going to go pro, i myself am moving onto canon. although, for any level amateur Sony is a good route.
Would recommend to anyone that is looking for nice DSLR

Summary: I purchased this model of camera used in like new condition (practically stole it) as a gift for my wife who is inexperienced in photograhy and I felt this would be a good start up DSLR for her to learn with. So far, so good, in fact she loves it, especially the live view feature, she wears glasses and using a view finder can sometimes be difficult, the live view is right there, easy to adjust and easy to see what it is you are about to take a pic of.
Excerpt: This camera comes with on-screen helps to remind beginners what all the bells & whistles do. Many functions are buried in the menu (white balance, focusing & metering methods, ISO), but you learn to navigate them fast. I like that the scene modes are on the PASM dial -- sometimes for speed's sake you just want the Auto or scene settings. The adjustable LCD screen is very nice for different shot angles or for seeing the screen better in bright sunlight.
Good value for the price, This is more than just an entry level camera.

Summary: I bought this camera to take advantage of my collection of Minolta AF lenses. I have used it now for two days and have taken 200+ test pics. using various lenses. I am very pleased with the quality of the photos. I am still in a learning curve in getting to know which settings work best with which lenses. I am very pleased with the Sony 18 55mm kit lens that came with the camera.
Summary: [Updated: see bottom] I purchased this camera after reading so many positive reviews, but I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed and unimpressed. I am not a professional photographer by any means, or even a talented amateur. Really, I was replacing a older Sony Cybershot p&s and all I really wanted was a camera that would be fast and responsive for normal family photos.
Summary: I decided to buy this camera because I would start in the DSLR world and therefore by design, size, portability and price I think I have hit. Its intuitive menus, ergonomics and light weight make it a good choice if you're looking to move from compact to DSLR world without seeking a professional performance but want to make a qualitative leap in terms of sharpness and quality of your photos are concerned.
