Incredible Low Light Machine

TyCoop, B&H Photo
  • Excerpt: I purchased this mainly to use with my collection of Leica lenses, specifically indoors. For that purpose, I could not be more please with this camera. It excels in low light situations...not only producing shape, clear images with negligible noise at high ISOs, but also with exceptional dynamic range. You can pull shadows out of the dark and get good quality texture and contrast. Operating the camera is a piece of cake.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Short Battery Life

Low Light Monster

Tycoop, Amazon
  • Summary: This camera is exceptionally good at low light imagery. I purchased it to use with my assortment of Leica lenses, mostly indoors in low light situations. I had read good things about Sony's manual focusing aids such as focus peaking and magnification, so I took the leap of faith and purchased the camera. I am very glad I did. Manually focusing with this camera is a piece of cake.

Sony A7s Scam

Jose, B&H Photo
30 March 2015
  • Excerpt: Sony does not offer firmware support for the A7s outside the US. DO NOT BUY IT unless you live in the States. I bought it and I can't even BUY the time-lapse app from the Sony Playmemories site, which they will charge you a lousy 9 bucks for it! I called Sony service support and they say they are sorry, but I need to be in the US physically with the camera to be able to BUY and download their app.
  • Pros: Good in Low Light
  • Cons: No Support If Overseas, No Timelapse App Outside Us

Aniket Raj, Amazon
29 March 2015
  • Summary: in AWE.. I love this camera! :D Just a heads up... If you use a DSLR handling this camera feels like a point and shoot... but it PACKS A PUNCH and some more. I love the built in Picture Profiles, ability to save MULTIPLE manual settings (to use for later), lots more I moved up from my Canon 30D (so it was a big jump in technology) WILL UPDATE in few months

the af tracking was not as good as it could have been for low light

Miguel, Amazon
25 March 2015
  • Summary: Returned this camera because the af wasnt where it needed to be for concerts, the af tracking was not as good as it could have been for low light. The 12mp is more than enough for most applications and it's easier for asset management, which is awesome. Too much focus on the MP wars. If Sony could come out with a 16mp a7s with af and shooting like the a6000, I'm sold.

Magic in a mini box

Anthony, B&H Photo
20 March 2015
  • Excerpt: How in the hell does this little, fits in the palm of my hand, camera do what it does? No bigger than an early 2000's point and shoot, the A7S boggles the mind when it comes to size vs capability. Full frame sensor in something that is as thick (if not a bit thinner) than two decks of cards stacked together? That's some voodoo right there!
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Good in Low Light, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Short Battery Life

Not an action stills camera, but video

Gadgetlover, B&H Photo
19 March 2015
  • Excerpt: Own both a7 and A7s. Bought the a7s because A7 was not very good Using ISO above 1600 in lowlight conditions. Both are exactly about the same and produce excellent photos with natural lighting on non moving subjects. The focusing is slow and even worse using adapters and non sony lens. But with manual focus together with focus assist when using canon or Nikon lenses, produces very sharp photos.

The Best Video Camera I've Ever Used

D. G. Lormans, Amazon
4 March 2015
  • Summary: I also own a Panasonic GH4, so I'm in the envious position of being able to compare the two hottest mirrorless "video" cameras in the world. I also have a Sony a7. The a7 always let me down video-wise, but the a7S is a different beast altogether. I don't have an external recorder, so I shoot in 1080p only and I can say confidently it's the best video camera I've ever used. The smoothness, detail and clarity are unmatched even by the GH4 in 4K mode.
