Sigma SD14

12 April 2008
  • Summary: Sigma and Foveon fans, who have been waiting eagerly for this camera, might be interested in the SD14, but consumers can easily find more bang for their buck from other SLRs on the market.
  • Pros: Removable IR-cut filter lets you use the SD14 for infrared photography and acts as a dust shield for the sensor during normal photography.
  • Cons: Slow performance overall; overly noisy images at ISO 800 and ISO 1600; poor control scheme; inelegant design and ergonomics.

Expert Review

Good Gear Guide.au
29 February 2008
  • Summary: The Sigma SD14's Foveon sensor manages to capture exceptional colour, however in terms of image noise, sharpness and general ease of use, it is a little lacking. Considering the price tag there are much better buys in the SLR space unless extremely strong colour reproduction is your focus.
  • Pros: Great colour reproduction, robust build quality
  • Cons: Pictures not as crisp as some competitors, fiddly menu

Sigma SD14 review

22 June 2007
  • Excerpt: Independent lens maker Sigma is well known for its wide range of affordable film and digital optics that fit all the popular makes of DSLRs, but the company also manufactures its own DSLR with the exclusive, triple-layer Foveon X3 sensor. Sigma's SD14 is the successor to the SD10, featuring 14-million photodiodes, an improved viewfinder, a larger 2.5in screen, extended ISO1600 maximum and, unusually for Sigma at least, both in-camera Jpeg and Raw file capture.

Test: Sigma SD14 (Digital-SLR)

CHIP Online
30 March 2008
