Excerpt: SD 1 Merrill is difficult to use. There are no words on the body to tell you what to do. The worst thing is, the color it produces. The color of images is horrible. Green is recorded as grey. Pastel pink records as white. There are a lot of underexposed areas and shadows, exposures are just not right. I paid a lot of money for this camera and two lens and my previous, cheeper cameras did 100% better. I am ready to throw this camera in the trash.
Pros: Small / Compact
Cons: Complicated Controls, Poor Image Quality, Poor Image Stabilization, Poor in Low Light, Short Battery Life, Un-real Colors
Half Frame for this price ? try dp1 merrill instead...

Summary: good stuff maybe but no Raison d' etre...bec of dp1 merrill which is ALSO half size foveon sensor... ( or did i get the spec wrong !?!?! ) if sigma was going for spacious SLR body like this sd1 merrill, would have been MUCH BETTER engineering and common sense MARKETING to make it FULL SENSOR or even BIGGER than full sensor at this price, so it makes no sense, and no wonder it aint selling so hot... idiotic decision on sigma....shame, tsk tsk.
Excerpt: I have owned two of these cameras. The irst bought immediately they were released and the second only a week ago. The first camera was a shocker. Purple and green blotches in shadow, very poor exposure, uncertain focusing and unrealistic colors. I got rid of it but bought another only a week ago because the forums stated Sigma had sorted out the problems. That is not true. The camera is still a poor performer.
Cons: Greenpurple Blotches, Iffy Exposure, Iffy Focus, Innacuarate Color, S L O W
Summary: I am a professional photographer and i got the chance to use this kit with a 85mm lens. If you notice i didn't say pleasure of using this kit. It feels horrible, has ridiculous lag, heavy and just horrible to work with! If you have this kind of money to spend on a camera (and trust me its not worth anything like this) look at canon d1 or the 5d mkIII. Do not buy unless you want a very expensive camera shaped door stop.
