Excerpt: Sigma has long been known for the quality of their lenses, but their cameras have always taken a backseat. Although they should easily stand out of the crowd with their unique Foveon sensor and amazing image quality, Sigma cameras lack a few key elements that keep them from reaching the pinnacle of success.
Pros: Outstanding image quality at low ISOs, Great color quality from Foveon sensor, Optically superior 50mm lens
Cons: High ISO images are inadequate, Slow autofocus, Poor battery life, Expensive
Summary: The DP3 Merrill is not for everybody. And, with a rated battery capacity of only 97 shots/charge, it's as well the camera is supplied with two rechargeable batteries, which are relatively quick to re-charge. But if you're after a compact camera with a 'portrait' focal length, and would be prepared to use low ISO settings and willing to record raw files and process them with Sigma's software, the DP3 Merrill is capable of delivering superb results that can match – or...
Excerpt: The Sigma DP3 Merrill has a substantial, serious design that is very box-like but not altogether unattractive. Measuring 121.5mm(W) x 66.7mm(H) x 80.6mm(D) and weighing 400grams, it just fits into a coat pocket or small camera bag. It's too big and bulky for a trouser or shirt pocket though, primarily because of the lens housing which protrudes about 5.5cms out from the front of the camera body.
