Pentax quality at a Samsung price; blends advanced features and ease of use
8 September 2012
Summary: The Samsung GX-1L, along with its bundled Schneider Kreutznach 18-55mm zoom lens are actually re-badged Pentax products. The camera is a re-branded Pentax *ist-DL2 and the lens is identical to the SMC Pentax DA lens bundled with many of that manufacturer's digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. The first DSLR camera jointly developed by Samsung and Pentax, it is an oft-overlooked and perhaps a less expensive alternative to its popular Pentax counterpart.
Summary: Dear Friends, How can an SLR have a view screen view finder? When the reflex mirror is down no image can get to the detector. All the light is reflected off the mirror into the eye piece. Get it together before you write a review.
Summary: It's worth looking for reviews on the *ist DL too, because it's the same camera. There are slight cosmetic differences, but nothing that affects the image quality, operation or accessories. It takes the same lenses. I've used the Pentax version and it is an excellent DSLR. It's one of the smallest available, which is very nice - especially if you use it with one of Pentax' pancake lenses, which are available at 21, 40 and 77mm focal lengths.
Summary: This is my first DSLR and my first SLR type camera. I love it! And am still learning about it. The only frustrating thing is that it doesn't seem to have the ability to use the digital screen as a view finder. I am, however, enjoying actually using the regular view finder for a change.
Excerpt: As a very long term 35mm SLR and Medium format user, I`ve just bought one of these cameras. This is my first digital SLR. To cut a long story short- I`m delighted with the camera. I`ve been a fan of pentax cameras for years, and this camera is very much a Pentax. Don`t let a mere 6 Mp put you off- the photos from the Samsung are as good as any I`ve seen, and I`m used to quality. A real bargain, and unless you`re fooled by brand names, a great camera.
Excerpt: bought this camera a few weeks ago at Saturn in Rotterdam for only € 489,-- (which is approx GBP 375,--)and they gave me a 2gb SD-card and a shoulder bag to go with it for free. It`s my first camera and it surprizes me everytime I use it. It`s a pity it works on (four) batteries and hasn`t got an inbuilt rechargeable battery. Still worth every euro I paid for it.
Excerpt: May not have all the features of more expensive cameras or the famous name(s) but it appears to be a pentax in disguise and all pentax `istdl` accessories inc. lenses work with it. but what it does do it does superbly. Menus are easy to follow, zoom and auto focus are smooth and accurate, lenses give sharp images with good contrast and balance. The camera feel solid enoughand fits the hand easily.
Excerpt: Background After getting home after a once in a lifetime trip I eagerly downloaded all my photographs onto the PC to view them. I don't think I have ever been so disappointed in my whole life. Only a few of my pictures were what I would class as good and the limitations of my compact digital camera were clearly apparent. It was time for some serious thinking.
Rebadged pentax will force down prices - oh and it's ace!

Summary: The price that should first be forced down is Amazons! The full guide rrp on this is only £449 stg - where do you get off with a £570 price tag huh mr amazon?! As for the camera - yes it's a pentax DL2 - end of story. Ok they might have tweaked the firmware - that's been suggested elsewhere - but it's a proper pukka pentax for (if you hunt around) half the dosh.
