The Ricoh GXR S10 is too expensive for what it offers and has nothing that makes it stand out from the competition. The GXR+S10 24-72mm module is solid, but it is far from being a best-in-class enthusiast compact camera. Read more

    • Feels nicely constructed.
    • Relatively expensive; soft photos; poor noise reduction; no HD video capture.

Features

The Ricoh GXR is a digital camera that consists of a body and camera units, with each camera unit containing a lens (focal lengths differ between units), an image sensor of optimum type and size for the unit, and an image processing engine. Uses can expand the range of scenes by changing the lens unit. This is done with the slide mechanism which has been adopted for attaching and removing camera units. The camera also protects the inert of the unit from dust because the lens and the image sensor are integrated into a single unit, making it difficult for dust to get in as it is not necessary to expose the inside of the camera when changing lenses. The inside of the units are also airtight with light-shielded walls. The body and the camera units are designed with a magnesium alloy exterior that has heat-dissipation and magnetic-shielding characteristics. This is completed with a non-slip "pear-skin" baked finish for corrosion resistance. Other features on the Ricoh GXR includes up to ISO3200 sensitivity, different image settings such as Vivid, Standard, Natural, Black & White, B&W (TE), and Setting. In addition, for Black & White, B&W (TE), and Setting; contrast and sharpness that can be adjusted to 9 levels; multi-pattern auto white balance which segregates the image into multiple areas and applies the optimum white balance to each and producing a natural color; M-continuous plus where the camera shoots continuously while the shutter-release button is pressed, and records 30 still images shot just before the instant the user removes their finger from the shutter-release button. Other features on the camera include a tilt indicator, three grid guides, pixel output interpolation algorithm that suppresses whiteout and expands the dynamic range of bright areas; AE/AF target selection, Auto bracketing and white balance bracketing, Color bracketing, DIRECT screen which displays current shooting settings; 8-Directional pad handles diagonal movement; three My Settings and the My Settings Box, and customizable ADJ. lever for creating a shortcut to menu functions and for making direct setting changes.
