  • Excerpt: Just after my daughter was born I bought the Ricoh Caplio R7 for my wife as she was on maternity leave and I wanted her to have something nice and easy to use so she could capture the changes over those first few months.
  • Pros: Packed with features and a brilliant zoom
  • Cons: Sound problems in video mode but that could be a one off

Just a year later it was failed again with the same fault, once again it was replaced for free. 10 months later whilst on holiday in Australia the same fault occured.
  • Pros: Neat looking camera easy to use .
  • Cons: Lens assembly has failed 3 times in 4 years .

  • Summary: I don't understand the experts' rave reviews. Are they sure it was a Caplio R7 they tested. It's the worst compact camera I have ever owned. The lens seized up within a few weeks. I had to switch off and on several times to release it. A few months later the focusing went completely.
  • Pros: very little, when it did work it was okayish
  • Cons: poor image quality, flimsy construction, faulty internals.

  • Summary: I wanted a small capable camera to carry when I couldnt tote my Nikon SLR around. After reading several review site I chose the Ricoh over the Panasonic Lumix. That was a mistake as it was soon clear that the camera has very poor low light capability and the flash bleaches out subjects.
  • Pros: Occasionally it allows you to take photos
  • Cons: It has a fundamental flaw which renders the camera useless

  • Excerpt: overall I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed. I'm no camera buff, so I wanted something that'd cope with most eventualities like my old Kodak. This new camera really doesn't cope very well with either extreme of lighting - I thought that this point and click jobbie would do that for me without...
  • Pros: small size, great screen
  • Cons: zoom mechanism keeps jamming;

  • Summary: I searched for ages to find an alternative/replacement for my Canon S2. This promised so much and offered comparative zoom levels. What can I say - the LCD screen is so poor you cant tell whether the picture is good or not till you put it on your computer. Not a major issue you think........
  • Pros: Big Optical Zoom
  • Cons: LCD Screen, Washed out colours, Reliability, Wide Angle Distortion

Best Compact Digi I've Ever Used

marksweb, Ciao
19 February 2008
  • Excerpt: Picked this up nearly 3 months ago now as my third compact digital after having a kodak for my first then a canon IXUS 500 after that. I also shoot with a Canon EOS 300d so was looking for great image quality, and a general upgrade from my IXUS.
  • Pros: great image quality from a tiny camera !
  • Cons: noisy lens mechanism due to it being such a big lens in such a small body
