Excerpt: Image quality is the best of the R series and IMO better than the CX pair also , imagine GX100 quality scaled down to a small sensor and you`re there - the R5 bugbear is that its Poorly made AND designed with lens Jams, crashes, frequent AF misses and sporadic blurred RH edge problems - add the worst designed zoom lever possible and you`ve got a right mixed bag on your hands - whether its treasure or trash depends on how good you are at keeping it running and how good...
Excerpt: I purchased the R5 to replace my defunct Praktica Luxmedia (relatively obscure make, but very nice photos). The good things are the nice zoom range, some manual controls and the dedicated button to show the last picture taken. The menus are very easy to follow and quite clear. No problems there. The macro ability is very good, with a nice control to change the focus point manually - something I hadn't seen on any other camera before.
Excerpt: I brought this camera thinking it was going to be great, but unfortunately i was really dissapointed and im sending it back Problems: poor image quality, problems with blurring, problems in low light, images are grainy looking.
Excerpt: Image quality isn't as good as other cameras I have seen (grainy). When I turn the camera on I get inteference on the LCD screen like tv inteference. Zooming in the LCD picture is blurry (can't see what is being photographed) - have to move close to the subject to use zoom effectively. Low light pictures are grainy unless you up the ISO. Highest ISO settings produces a better picture at night/ in low light.
Excerpt: "I must just be one of the unlucky ones. I have had to send this camera back to the manufacturers twice and the pictures are still not right. The first time a black splodge appeared in the centre of the screen. When I downloaded the photos the splodge was on that too. The second time the zoom would not go back in, only a few weeks apart. I just cant seem to take an in focus picture and it is so frustrating as I am missing out on so many pictures of ...
Pros: I haven't had the pleasure yet of finding any
Summary: Hi, bought one odf these at the recommendation of the sales person, right from the start all the images had noise on them. I now have take the auto ISO out and just use 200 ISO. some still have noise in the photo, but what else can you do with this camera.
Summary: My new R5 does not freeze up or lose track of images (yet...but I have shot 100 or so images without problem). Vertical blue stripes appear on the LCD when shooting in very difficult light environments, (I was macro-ing right in on an object in very patchy incandescent light), but they do not actually obliterate the image on the LCD, and they don't transfer to the saved image at all. My original R4 (itself very new) was fragile..
Pros: The white balance presets for incand and fluoro light, and the manual WB give good results. The macro is outstanding and is the only reason i bought this camera
Cons: blue stripes inconvenient. I suspect it will be as fragile as the R5
