Features

The X70 digital compact camera features high-magnification optical 24-times zoom lens with a wide-angle to telephoto coverage, and sports a portable, compact, lightweight body. The X70’s zoom range can be extended to approximately 150 times without compromising the optical performance of the zoom lens. The X70 incorporates image-sensor-shift-type SR (Shake Reduction) system for focused, blur-free images. This technology detects the amount of camera shake using a high-performance gyro sensor and shifts the CCD image sensor vertically and horizontally at high speed to compensate for the shake. The X70 also has the capabilities and features to shoot movies in high-definition TV image quality (1280x720 pixels) and with anti-shake protection. It features the Movie SR mode which minimizes camera shake during movie shooting through the use of software. Other features on the X70 are Auto Picture mode, which automatically selects appropriate shooting mode for a subject or scene by detecting lighting and other conditions; Face Recognition function to capture up to 32 faces in focus in approximately 0.03 seconds; Smile Capture function that automatically releases the shutter the instant it detects the subject’s smile; Blinking Detection function that warns the photographer when the subject’s eyes close at the time of shutter release; high ISO 6400 that allows the photographer to use a high shutter speed in dimly lit locations; and the choice to shoot in different image format (4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 1:1).

The Pentax Optio X70 features a wide-angle stabilized 24X optical zoom lens, a basic set of manual controls plus HD 720p movie-recording. The standout feature is obviously the zoom lens which lets photographers frame about anything but the high-definition movie-mode adds another dimension to what this camera can do. Read more

While Pentax has a long heritage in the world of photography, it was one of the few manufacturers yet to enter the world of superzooms. However, that all changed at this year’s PMA convention in Birmingham, where Pentax announced the all-new X70 – a small camera that boasts a large 24x zoom and shake reduction, as well as full manual control. Features The new addition is noticeably small in the hand, and weighs in at just 390g, making it quite a bit lighter than most... Read more

Despite my few quibbles, the fact is that the X70 is capable of producing excellent still image quality when care is taken and manual settings are employed. In automatic mode it will occasionally pop out a gem, and at worst it's just average for its class. The level of manual control is excellent, the feature list certainly places it in the top tier, the lens is a marvel, and the camera's lightweight and compact nature will be a boon to many photographers. Build quality... Read more

Product: Pentax X70 Digital Camera Manufacturer: Pentax Price: about $320 Author: Cameron ( aliencam ) Date: May 24, 2010 The Pentax X70 is an upper tier point-and-shoot camera in the fairly new “super-zoom” or “mega-zoom” category. These are single lens cameras with large optical zooms, and a form factor slightly smaller than (but very similar to) most DSLR cameras. The target audience for these cameras would be people looking to get into more advanced digital... Read more

I was encouraged to get a good camera before our trip to Alaska. I knew I could not afford a high end camera, so I begain researching. I had a Pentax years ago and it was a great camera, so when I begain reading about the X70, I liked what I was reading. I especially liked the size and weight of the camera. I'm not a professional, but love taking pics when traveling. After much research and comparison of many cameras, I felt the X70 had the most to offer for the money. I... Read more or see product

I bought this camera for a trip to Alaska and it was the best camera I could have chosen. It is lightweight and doesn't hurt to have hanging around my neck. The zoom is fantastic. I love the settings for different surroundings. I'm not a professional photographer, but I love taking pictures. I have had cameras since childhood and this one is the best I've ever had. I did not have the funds to afford a high priced camera, but wanted the most for the money I could spend... Read more

I was excited to get one of the first X70s when it became available on April 1st. I really didn't know what features it would end up having after reading the preliminary list. One of the things that impressed me that I didn't know anything about was the fact that Pentax for the first time that I knew of, included a dedicated auto focus assist lamp! No more raising of the flash to assist in focusing in low light. I remember reading oh so many reviews on DP Review how... Read more

Easy to use, with no problems. I have had no issues with my camera at all, very pleased with the clarity of shots, especially in macro 1cm mode. Produces very clear sharp images even at 24x zoom. Used mainly outdoors at beach and country locations, captures true to life images. Only complaint is no RAW mode. Read more
