Summary: Some background so you know where this review is coming from... I'm a semi-pro photographer, which means I've sold some work (mainly those kind of high-end greeting cards you buy that come wrapped in individual cellophane, "nature" images..) but don't make enough money off it to quit my day job. I've been through many cameras in my life.
Summary: my kid wanted to this camera because she loved the colors so i sold the olympus 850 ( much nicer quality then this one) and the pictures are just so bad, never seen a camera so bad quality like this one. also underwater its even wrost. but she loves it because it does all this kids stuff. i guess this is for kids. i got the pink fuji for me w33 and its better but not so good under water.
Summary: I had no real issues with this camera until recently. I have been very careful not to drop or damage this camera and without any contact that would cause it, the screen is now having pixelation issues. Specifically, there is a significant line across the screen. I am very disappointed as I have not had this camera very long. Otherwise the functions of the camera work just fine, however, it has a delay when recording images to the SD card.
Summary: This camera is good for taking outdoor shots only. Controls are not user friendly but maybe because it has to pack the controls inside a water tight compartment. what really turns me off is the quality of indoor pictures. Anything above ISO 300 produces a very grainy picture with lots of noise. Same with the HD video.
Summary: I ordered this camera to use during water activties on a caribbean cruise. I used it the weekend before on dry land and thought it did a great job - especially shooting "Wide screen" video. We left for our cruise and took the Pentax on our first beach day. Used it snorkeling (note I stay on the surface and never dive down so the camera would never be more than 3 feet submerged) and took fabulous underwater photos and video. I was very pleased.
Summary: I have only one complaint about this camera, but for me it's a big one. There is no viewfinder. I absolutely hate that. I use these type of cameras for fishing mostly. Most of the time I have to use one hand to hold the camera and press the shutter. It is just not steady when you are holding it with one hand away from your face. When you press the button, the camera moves and you get a different shot than you were expecting.
Summary: This was my third ultra compact from Pentax. I have owned the Optio s4 and the Optio s7 prior to this camera. I really liked all the features this one offered, it has many more great features that the s7 does not, unfortunately the picture quality is just not up to par. There was far too much noise and grain even in good light conditions. The s7 has much better picture quality. Unfortunately the auto focus lag time on the s7 was terrible.
