Summary: I got this camera because I frequently walk the dog in the rain and snow (in winter), and didn't want to risk my more expensive cameras. I have been very pleasantly surprised! This little camera has an amazing array of fun features. it is not the fastest either to focus or to write to the card. It takes adequate, but not outstanding pictures - BUT it has so many features hidden away in the menus - in addition to being waterproof and incredibly tough.
Summary: I opened it and took it camping to rivers and waterfalls, and so far its wonderful. However, Reading the manual I discovered that rubber seals must be changed every year, I wish I had known that before.
Summary: I LOVE this camera. I am a professional photographer and a commercial dive harvester and have only recently begun playing with underwater photography. I bought this to play with on a trip to Hawaii, and it was SO MUCH FUN. It is rugged, and I have not yet had any problems with leakage at ALL, even after spending MANY consecutive hours snorkelling.
Summary: I bought this camera to use on a two day rafting trip knowing that it would get very wet. It performed pretty well, including video. However, it is possible, or probable, that you will have times when you miss a picture or starting video because you haven't released the shutter. This was a constant problem when my wife was using the camera and occasionally with me. The camera does have shutter lag a little more than I expected.
Summary: I bought this camera after reading the reviews on it in Parents magazine, which highly recommended it for people with kids. My daughter is 7 months old and we have captured some priceless pictures of her with this great camera. Pros: light weight, durable, video with slow motion play back (awesome), self-assist and smile capture option (great for family selfies), long lasting battery, memory (limited) without SD card, great zoom, numerous photo settings, attached...
Summary: Seems durable. Definitely functions well in/around water. Survived a day in and out of my pocket at the water park. Easy to use once you learn the functions. Waterproof hatches (battery cover, etc) not the easiest to use compared to other models looked at, but so far, they do their jobs.
Summary: Brilliant camera. I love the look and feel. The interface is not as easy to use as my old camera. I think that there are just too many options / modes to select making it difficult to scroll through them all when you are in a hurry. However, there is one feature that is brilliant. It has a microscope feature which is like a macro on steroids. Brilliant!!! Not sure what I will use it for but it is fun to play with.
Summary: Waterproof battery and plug compartments do not feel very secure and I was disappointed to read that the waterproof seals should be redone every year; this was not stated in the advertising. The camera arrived with only Japanese instructions, not even a startup folder in English. The camera strap is much too bulky and I replaced it with my Canon strap.
Summary: I have used this camera twice on hikes. It takes decent but not fantastic shots. It is easy to use, I didn't have to read the manual to figure it out. It is rugged and I found out that it can be dropped without breaking. Thought I hooked in securely on my pack but when I stood up it dropped about 4 feet onto solid rock and there were no issues.
Summary: I've taken it camping, canoeing, tubing, skiing, sledding, swimming... pretty much everywhere I've gone. For outdoor adventures, it's a pretty good camera. If I was an extremely active outdoorsman, I may have gone for the GoPro. But as a recreational outdoor fella, this works just fine. For indoor shots, you need to find the proper setting for the lighting.
