Excerpt: (1 items) Pentax’s Optio A40 is a 12-megapixel compact point and shoot digital camera. It offers digital and optical shake reduction, as well as high ISO settings and a 3x optical zoom. It’s also capable of recording videos at 640-by-480 resolution at 30 frames per second in DivX-based MPEG-4 format, which requires the installation on your Mac of a free software plug-in.
Pros: Digital and optical image stabilization, Very Good photo quality, Sturdy and compact design
Cons: No optical viewfinder, Movie format requires installing a plug-in
Summary: The Pentax Optio A40 is a very good compact indeed. It’s just that when it’s in its fully automatic mode, it’s fussy and takes a lot of getting used to being very slow in certain situations, particularly in low light (that is that six second delay again). This takes a little of the shine off the very good manual options on offer but the cool photo editing functions are a real bonus.
Pros: Image quality, Comprehensive auto focus settings, Good portrait mode, Clever photo/movie editing options, Face and Tracking AF.
Cons: Poor performance in low light, High ISO image noise.

Excerpt: In the last year, photography has really gained importance among my hobbies and interests. I absolutely love taking pictures. There's just one problem: it can be really difficult to carry a camera, especially if it's a DSLR, at all times. I found, however, that with the Pentax Optio A40 , the company's latest top-of-the-line compact, I could easily slip this camera into a pocket and go most anywhere.
Pros: Excellently sized compact camera, Good lens, Great image quality
Cons: Focusing difficulties (many photos completely out of focus), Sluggish flash performance, Menus can be a bit confusing
Excerpt: The Pentax Optio A40 is the latest result of Pentax's tradition of producing simple, usable, ultracompact cameras that have high-quality optics. This 12Mp black-and-silver model has a serious look.
Summary: The Pentax Optio A40 offers first-class picture quality, with optical image stabilisation and dynamic range adjustment looking interesting, but the middling specs are uninspiring and the toy-like styling isn't for us.
Summary: With a high-end price tag but middling specs, the Pentax Optio A40 doesn't stand out. Picture quality is first-class, with optical image stabilisation and dynamic range adjustment looking interesting, but the toy-like styling isn't for us
